Thoughts on Lotus Emira?
I was starting my hunt for a 718 GT4 allocation to replace my 981 CGTS, but the Emira changed that plan. I suppose that makes me one of the customers Lotus (Geely) needs to poach.
The dealer I spoke with said they expect 30 allocations for the 22 model year, but no deliveries until July-Sep 22. They believe that there won't be a pause in deliveries between the 22 and 23 model years. The 22 model year cars will be designated with first edition badging and in limited supply, with the 23 model year cars arriving Oct 22.
I told the salesman that I wanted a 23 model year car to hopefully avoid unknowable production issues that plague first year cars. He said that they have 20 pre-orders and I am free to pre-order a 23 if desired. He also said that they received the vast majority of pre-orders in the three days that followed the announcement. He's only logged three more in the following ten days and they have all been from more rational current Porsche owners.
He did mention that Lotus is requiring the deposit to be $2,500 and all paid deposits are being tracked by Lotus directly. If you're being charged more/less, that is something your local dealer has decided to do.
Just like C7toM2toGT4? wrote, if this car doesn't pan out (price/quality/performance), I'll just get my money back sans interest.

I forgot to include a few other details that the salesman told me which ultimately got me to make a deposit...
-Placing the deposit now locks in MSRP with this particular dealer as outlined in their purchase order form.
-Dealer expects that Lotus/Geely will offer extended warranties at time of new car purchase (for an additional charge).
-If you have an issue/fault/failure that is covered by a Lotus issued warranty, you get free flatbed service to/from your nearest Lotus service center. That is about 350 miles one way for me, probably similar for a lot of folks given the sparse dealer network in the USA.
When you put all that together, a $2,500 refundable deposit is a pretty low risk proposition.

Door sound at 2:06 has me worried. worried. Pre-production Yugo door sound better be gone by Spring 2022.
