Single clutch car, auto is a tad jerky...
not very fast, it fast enough... compared to a 997.2 S which is faster and ya means 991 will murder it
they can can have timing chain issues see forums. Rest of the vehicle is bullet proof for mid engine exotic

That era of transmission was not the most desirable.

Very jerky and harsh.

You can find many auto R8's of the same era for sale and they sit for sale for ever.

When I test drove one years ago the sales associate even said to leave up on the go fast pedal before making a shift.

The cost new was not worth putting up with such a ruff tranny.

If the R8 has low mileage & your GTO is in superb condition, both cars have about the same value IMO, though the value of your GTO will continue to increase being classic and the R8 does not.

Gearbox in R8 is fine if you don’t mind slight jump during shift. If you wish to go ahead with the trade, have the gearbox checked because the parts like actuator, pumo, hydraulic control can fail at some point. Also get some cash too to rectify the classic value.

The R8 is a pretty cool car, but not exceptionally fast and it has Audi components, so be prepared for constant little crap to go wrong with it. Me personally, I wouldn't get one with their "auto" especially of that generation.
