Impressions of Mercedes SLK 280?
A friend is looking to offload his wife's '07 SLK 280 with just 36K miles on the odometer.
What's the Rennlist collective say about this Mercedes hard-top convertible? Good/bad/indifferent? Any gotchas to be aware of?
Thanks in advance. I miss my 986 and have been jonesing for a convertible for quite a while...

I have a 2006 Cayman S and a 2016 SLK350.
They are both great cars. The SLK is much more refined, yet the on street performance is fantastic. It is almost as quick as the Porsche, stops as well, initial turn in is great, predictable and confident. The retractable hard top is engineering genius. The car is as quiet as any seen when the top is up. Of course, there are times when nothing beats the feeling of going topless.
I think that the SLK is the best roadster on the market at it's price point.

Wife has '14 SLK 250 and she loves it. It's her weekend fun car. She calls it the micro-Cali because of the hard top convertible aspect. The 280 is an older iteration, but if you can get heated seats or neck scarf that'll extend the weather window in which you can use it top down. With those plus the heater going full blast, we've been comfy top down in mid 50s.
The wife's 250 has eco, sport and manual mode. Small stubby paddles. For enjoyment, need to be in sport mode. Manual is better fun. She uses eco when she's running around on the weekend with her gal pals.
Btw, if you can find a used SLK 55 AMG, it's one of the last non turbo Benzes. And, fun for you when the wifey lets you drive it!
