Recently purchased my first Porsche, a car that I've always wanted to own but never thought I would own one.

I knew getting a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera there would be things that I needed to work on. Doing more research now that I've committed to this car (something a smart person would have done long before the purchase) I can see I've got an engine rebuild ahead of me.

In a post-purchase-inspection that I did on the car, I found bore scoring on cylinder 6. There was also a tremendous amount of grime on the bell housing of the transmission and that end of the engine so this coming weekend I'm dropping the transmission, replacing the clutch assembly, the RMS and looking at the situation of the IMS (records show it was replaced at the end of 2018)

I'm fortunate to have had a successful military career and have several military bases near by with fully equipped self-service garages. I'm hoping to learn a lot from this site and possibly connect with others that have lived through the rebuild experience with bore scoring.

I don't have any help or insight but I'm very interested in this project. Will you be doing the work at Langley or Ft Eustis?

While both of those are great, I've found that the USCG base in Yorktown is a hidden gem with lots of free space.

The car has about 170K, the engine came from a 2003 and has about 80K (installed on this car about 40K ago).

Thanks! Mine is 98K, so far some electrical, hydraulics for the top, maintenance, etc.. Have not bore-scoped cylinders yet...
But YouTube is a really helpful reference for DIY repairs.
