Awesome - welcome! A life of Porsches is a life to lived proper 😆

Curious to learn about your experience with M96 engines.

I’ve had a 2002 Targa and as compared to my ‘99 Cab , the ‘99 is a much smoother responding engine . The 02 Targa has a bit more off the line torque but wasn’t as much fun to drive . My ‘99 is more responsive .

I had a 2002 996 C4S with the 3.6L engine. It was a great vehicle and I never had any major engine trouble. I had the IMSB replaced with a ceramic bearing from LN Engineering when the clutch was changed at about 95,000 miles. I drove it for another ~35,000 miles before I sold it and bought a 997 turbo. My overall experience with the 996 platform and the M96 engine was positive.

Love that - thank you! While the ultimate target is a 987 (2006 or 2007 preferably) I'm weighing the option of a 996 vs. 987. The bore scoring issues scare me on the 3.4L or 3.6L but for roughly the same price as a 2006+ Boxster you could land a clean low-ish mileage Carrera (eg https://www.pcarmarket.com/auction/2...1-cabriolet-5/)

Your positive experience fuels that fire

What was your experience with bore scoring across both models? Is it as big a concern as it's made out to be?
