I am a Vanagon owner also from Massachusetts (Boston area). I am going to check out an SVX converted 2WD Tin Top Vanagon in a few days and have been doing tons of research of these engines. My van has a healthy stock engine, so I know Vanagons very well but not SVXs. I stumbled upon your post about your Westfalia you converted:
I wanted to reach out and ask for advice on what to look for in this SVX conversion. What is your opinion on the conversion having done the work yourself and owning one? Please feel free to respond via email. My email address is jclessard21@gmail.com.
I'm asking myself the very same question.
There is nothing I don't like about the car. However, I do use it much less than I thought I would.
I do miss having a convertible and would like to have something more suitable for driving my young granddaughters around in.
I have not yet committed to sell it and the post you read is the 1st time I've put it out there.
Since I'd have to get $35k for it, I think it would be a waste of time to seriously try to sell it.
The engine rebuild with shipping both ways was over $25k.
BUT... all the 996 M96 concerns have been addressed.
Hey I'm on long island new york, recently bought the car from the original owner, it's been well kept, 47k miles, I don't have photos of the mufflers as they are on the car, but tomorrow I can get under the car and send some photos, if you prefer to text my number is five one six, 250 4765
Aha! My wife and I were both asking each other, "Do you know who that is?"
Let me know if you you happen to go to Plumb Corner or Upper Cape. Also Porsche Day is coming up in Brookline at the Larz Andersen museum.
