Sorry, I was on holiday and only read your meassage now. What you need to do is take your gearbox appart completely. Every gear, bolt, shaft, lid etc. should be removed in order to clean it thoroughly after machining. Get yourself the new '86 bearing and take th eold bearing, new one and the gearbox housing to a machine shop. Tell them to make the new bearing fit like the old one. Allignment is of utmost importance. Also clearance is important but when the opening in the housing is a little to big, I'm sure you could get away with some loctite. Remember, it's not a rocket you're driving into space; 'just' a fast car on the road...
