Thanks for the thorough response. I'm kinda embarrassed that I thought the rivets were hinge pins, but I've never used rivets before so I didn't recognize them. Based on your response I was able to get the hinge fixed over the weekend. Thanks!!!!

    Hi Jim,

I don't remember it being difficult. I think the kit I bought came with instructions. What you're calling hinge pins are actually rivets. You'll need a rivet gun. I bought mine at Lowes. The u-shaped pieces are to provide strength for the rivets. You drill through the plastic and through the u-shaped pieces. Let me see if I can find instructions.

    Found it:

Hi, I saw your post giving some praise to the 996 Console Hinge repair kit. I just purchased the kit on ebay but it did not come with instructions. Unfortunately, the video on their website is useless (http://porschefixes.com/). It does not show how to use the two smaller hinge pins, nor what to do with the u-shaped metal pieces. Rather than taking a chance on winging it for proper installation, i'm hoping someone can guide me through it. Any tips you can offer? If I get this done correctly, I'm hoping to post a full set of instructions with photos on the forum.

    Thanks!
    Jim

Love your car, same color like mine. Love seeing the rear. I want to do this exact same thing, so I am glad I see yours
