I don't remember it being difficult. I think the kit I bought came with instructions. What you're calling hinge pins are actually rivets. You'll need a rivet gun. I bought mine at Lowes. The u-shaped pieces are to provide strength for the rivets. You drill through the plastic and through the u-shaped pieces. I see that some people used screws instead of the rivets. The rivets are part of the official Porsche fix for this issue. Here is the TSB (Technical Service Bulletin)
