WTB: Guards Red 718 Cayman GT4 – Manual Only
Wanted2020 - 2024 Porsche 718 Cayman
Description:
First time Porsche buyer here and I could not be more excited to make this dream a reality. I have done my research, I know exactly what I want, and I am ready to move when the right car comes along.
Must haves:
• Guards Red exterior
• 6-speed manual transmission
• Sport bucket seats
• Clean title only – no salvage, rebuilt, or branded titles
I am a serious buyer, not a tire kicker. If you have a Guards Red GT4 with a stick and sport buckets, let’s talk. Open to various model years and mileage ranges.
Feel free to DM me with photos, mileage, asking price, and any relevant history. Thrilled to be joining the Porsche community and hoping this is the one that gets me there.
This is one of the only ones on the market I have seen with buckets and a manual, a few others with comfort seats.
Regardless, I genuinely appreciate the support from everyone here. I've heard about how great the Rennlist community is. Jsky, you're truly stand up example of why everyone loves it here. Keep them coming friends, I'm excited for the opportunity to own my very first Porsche!
Update for everyone: looks like this Guards Red GT4 is going to be mine. I spoke to the owner and we reached an agreement. First Porsche incoming.
There is one wrinkle. He is on the opposite coast (he's in New Jersey, I'm in California), so I have a bit of a logistics puzzle ahead of me. If anyone has experience buying a car cross country, whether it is coordinating a remote PPI, handling payment safely, or getting it shipped, I would love to hear how you navigated it. Any hard-learned lessons are especially welcome.
This community has already been incredibly helpful. Hoping to post a delivery photo soon.

You should post in the region forum to see if a nearby member can do an initial check of the car for you and may have shop recommendations.
With a PPI, ensure that the shop focuses on what items are important to you!
For payment, if this is a private seller/small dealer, I recommend you look into a service like keysavvy.com.
This is a big purchase, so you may want to consider flying out to see the car in person, might be fun to drive back

Good luck!

Congrats on a great car. I will tell you only use a reputable shipping company (look at my Boxster for sale, entire story with a bad broker). Shaughnessy Overland Express is who I would highly recommend. I would have a PPI done at a local Porsche dealer, one to verify the car is real and 2 to make sure its a good car. Facetime with the seller, with the car in the background. Pay via wire, require a signed bill of sale, title, and spare key be overnighted.
On the 981 vs 982 debate: I went with the 982 largely because the lighter clutch works better for my wife. But I’ll be honest, the 981 left a real impression on me. That rawness, the sound…it’s something else entirely. Both are incredible in their own right and I don’t think you can go wrong either way.
As for PCCB, honestly indifferent. I won’t be tracking often and the upkeep cost is pretty significant when you factor in replacement rotors. I’ve driven both setups and the standard iron brakes are genuinely impressive. Hard to justify the premium unless you are on track regularly.
Hoping to have better news to share soon, till then back on the hunt, haha!

I bought a 2006 Guards Red 987 Boxster (manual, sport chrono) 9 years ago, my introduction to the brand. It’s been perfect with no issues, made me fall in love with the mid-engine — and the guards red.

So excited to get into a GT4 once I find this spec, hopefully soon!

PPI is easy, look up porsche dealer or local well respected porsche/independent euro shop near him, call that store, get a PPI quote, discuss with seller if he is open to that (if he's not then don't buy the vehicle), you pay for the PPI, if its clean then fly out and drive it back. That's the best way to buy a car from a distance. Better yet, fly out, and drive it back the long way through the appalachian/smokey mountains, and wind your way through the rockies for a while before heading home. Have a friend you trust to drive it or at least co pilot fly out with you and make it twice as fun.
Easily the most difficult seller I’ve dealt with. I’m pretty disappointed, but back on the market and looking again. Fingers crossed I find something, haha. Any help would be much appreciated.
