Description:

This 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera coupe was first registered in Oklahoma, and it later spent time in Hawaii before its 2012 acquisition by me. It was subsequently modified with a lightened flywheel, an aftermarket clutch, an OS Giken limited-slip differential, WEVO engine and transmission mounts, an SWChips 66mm throttle body and engine control unit (ECU) tune, and an aftermarket exhaust system and headers. The car was repainted in Guards Red in 2019, and it is further equipped with a five-speed 915 manual transaxle, a steel sunroof plug, Flat6 Illumination projector-style headlights, a whale-tail spoiler, fiberglass bumpers, Bilstein dampers, aftermarket torsion bars and anti-roll bars, refinished 16″ Fuchs wheels, microsuede interior trim, black and gray cloth-upholstered Recaro seats, Rennline pedals, and power windows. This Carrera coupe is offered in California with factory literature, a car cover, service records dating from 2006, dynamometer reports, spare parts, a Carfax report, and a clean Alaska title in my name. Weighs 2400lbs.

Interesting car! Reading over the BAT post, I didn’t see much discussion/references concerning the mechanicals - specifically engine and gearbox. Can you provide any mechanical history?. By any chance do you have leak down/compression numbers? I regret selling my ‘88 coupe that was actually set up as a spec 911 and I’m looking to get back into an air cool car. Thanks!

I can get you a smog cert, but you'll need your own stock exhaust to get another. That could be a 2-years-from-now problem.

The engine and trans are mostly stock. The gearbox got new 2nd gear syncros like 20 years ago, I don't remember specifically. I swapped the open carrier for the OSGiken LSD 3 or 4 years ago. The engine hasn't had anything done to it. Valve cover gaskets and oil return tubes and stuff. If you're serious and would like to do a PPI, we can have them do compression numbers then. It was dyno tuned like 3-4k miles ago and did 216whp, so its obviously healthy. It was like 100deg that day in LA.

I appreciate the prompt reply especially given the holiday!. I’m just trying to get a handle on the mechanicals. Is the bottom of the engine dry? When did you last do a valve adjustment? Was the clutch replaced when you replaced the second gear syncros? Any additional details would be helpful!

The engine is dry, the valves were adjusted in the last 5k miles. The clutch is much newer than the syncros, those are about 20 years old at this point. The clutch and flywheel are from 2011 or 2012 I think. They have maybe 12k miles on them. The car has mostly lived in a garage, hasn't been driven in anger by me or the prior owner.

If I had a little money and was keeping it I would have the trans rebuilt with shorter gears in 2/3/4. I've been told by several builders that it makes it feel like it has 25 more hp.

If I had a lot of money I would do that, and I would swap the engine for a 3.6 twin plug.
