Description:

Hey Rennlisters!
I'm offering this very nice example of a 1970 911E for sale on behalf of its owner. See below for the opener to my recent Bring a Trailer auction for all the good stuff:This car started its life in SoCal, sold new by Catron Porsche Audi of Pomona, CA. Service stampings in the factory maintenance record indicate ~12k miles of driving in the owner’s first year of ownership, and regular servicing at Catron.

Later on, the car made its way up north, to Campbell, CA, where it was stored away from 1994 through 2009, ultimately won by the previous owner on an eBay auction out of Saratoga, CA.

The previous owner was an avid collector, cited in the previous auction of this car as buying a dozen cars with the intent to fix them up and enjoy them, so that’s what they did.

Under current ownership, my client elected to have Ed Palmer, proprietor of GA Kundensport, take the car across the finish line – including installation of a Talbot mirror, replacement of spark plugs, fuel injectors, and many rubber seals around the car. He also made quality of life improvements such as installing a Porsche Classic Headunit and Rennline phone mount.

Large suspension components (ie. trailing arms) were coated to protect them from the elements, and provide them with a like-new finish. All of the suspension fasteners, as well as the spring plates were stripped and plated in various finishes. The spring plates appear to be white-zinc plated, while some other fasteners were plated in yellow since – the intention behind this build is evident.

Its factory hydro-pneumatic 911E shocks and struts were replaced with a Koni alternative, giving the car a firm and confidence-inspiring ride. The torsion bars were removed from the body for the refresh, but there is no record of them being replaced or uprated.

The body was also stripped down to bare metal, where corrosion was addressed. If you take a look at photos 343-345, you’ll see a particular rust repair to the bottom edge of the driver’s door, where rust was properly cut out and new metal welded in. Once all of the metalwork was completed, the body was finished in its original shade of Pastel Blue with Glasurit 22. All latches and strikers were also re-plated in a yellow zinc coating. The body disassembly was completed by Bob Gorman (Monroe Collision) and the paint/bodywork was completed by Steve Kernac.

Its engine and mechanicals were overhauled by P3 Autokrafte of Dayton, Ohio. The engine was torn down and case split. Some components were soda blasted, others Vibrodyned, then plated – photo 366 shows a plethora of engine parts, which underwent zinc plating. Upon splitting the case, the crankshaft was polished, valve seats reground, valve stem seals replaced, valve guides replaced, and the pistons/cylinders were replaced with the Mahle Motorsport PS84-001 type. The cylinder head studs, timing chain, sprockets, etc., were also replaced.

The MFI pump was also rebuilt by Jerry Fairchild Industries during P3’s work.

Overall, all nuts and bolts were turned, and not a part was spared by the metal plater. The engine pulls strong and starts right up with a slight engagement of the hand throttle. The clutch bites well and is free of any chatter or shuddering, and the gearbox shifts well, although fourth gear does require extra care when driving at higher revs with a hot transmission. The car tracks and brakes straight, as well.

This is an example that likes to be driven – I’ve had the privilege of putting some spirited miles on the car in and around the Santa Monica Mountains, and each second was truly a dream. Be sure to take a look at both of our driving videos!

The current owner has elected to sell this car, as it was replaced by a modern 992 GT3 Touring, which is a do-it-all fun car for him, that members of his family are happy to ride in; more than a 54 year old car with no A/C and crank windows. This car is truly loved and will be dearly missed by him.

I’m happy to show this example and answer any questions asked by prospective bidders. It can be seen by appointment only in our West Los Angeles clubhouse, where it is stored indoors. Please reach out with any questions or schedule a time to see it. We can also assist with transport, and PPIs are permitted on a case-by-case basis, at the prospective bidder’s expense.

Thanks for viewing.
