Description:
1958 Porsche 356A cab built as a vintage race car by Rod Emory. This is an early Emory/Parts Obsolete race car on a clean rust and damage free 356A with a Reutter body and a factory removable hardtop. It was originally built for vintage racing and if you’re looking for a perfect vintage racer this is an excellent option as it has all sorts of upgrades to make it safe, quick, and reliable. After it was initially used in vintage racing it was altered to be road legal with proper lights etc. Additionally this car qualifies for all sorts of touring and rally events such as the Colorado Grand, California Mille, Going to the Sun, etc.
Power is provided by a tuned 1620cc Porsche 912 engine tuned with a believed output of 145 horsepower and 7000 RPM redline. The car is equipped with a 356 B gearbox and disc brakes all around with 15” aluminum wheels Emory frequently uses from a 944 Turbo to provide clearance of the disk brakes and a wider contact patch for the tires than the original 356 wheels would allow. The beautiful aluminum custom fuel tank fills through the hood.
The rear lid is externally hinged like a Porsche 911 R and has reversed louvres for a smooth look. Along with the Emory Outlaw badge there’s a Nurburgring badge as the car did events in Germany for a number of years including trips around the ‘ring. Up front there’s a hand painted Porsche badge and the fenders each have a typical outlaw flying Pegasus. The car also is equipped with vintage Bosch driving lights, it has speedster stone grills over the headlights, external kill switch, leather hood straps, and it’s got fender-mounted side mirrors in body-color housings. Lastly the car is painted guards red with black satin roof and trim along with black and white roundels on the doors and hood - all reflecting a nod to vintage racing history perfectly blended with outlaw styling and improvements.
Inside the car has a partial cage to provide on track protection (removable if desired). The windows are raised and lowered with leather pulls just like the early 356 racers. It’s got houndstooth red and black race seats on sliders and full harnesses for driver and passenger along with a fire suppression kit. 904 triple combo gauges, custom dead pedal, Emory designed eagle shift handle, and other details are nice touches that set Emory cars apart and show attention to detail.
Included with the car is a mountain of paperwork showing the cars history and provenance including its motorsports log book showing it was raced by its previous owner as well as Mrs. Amy Emory before leaving to spend time in Europe and just being brought back stateside by its owner this last year.
This 356 is a joy to drive but my focus is more on Ferrari race cars and I’ve just purchased a Ferrari sports racer to use for vintage events moving forward. This car will be fully serviced and offered to its next owner for $295k. Trades (in part or whole) considered on a case by case basis.
