Description:
Selling my 1987 944S with 138423 on the odometer (running after I repaired the gear). I want to be as clear and honest with this as possible.
When I bought it this was a non-running car and I have since brought it back to life…twice. It won’t be a show car unless you spend a lot of money on it, but it was and can be a great track/driver. I have simply run out of time to deal with it as I’ve wanted to install some of these parts for two summers now. This can be revived into a great track car with some time and effort, especially with all the parts I have for it. And with the body the way it is you won’t worry about track rash.
First the good!
- Runs and drives! Was being used as a semi-daily driver
- Brand new tiers for the phone dials (not installed on the rims)
- Rebuilt another engine about three years ago.
- New lifters
- Engine build was all new rings, bearings, seals, top to bottom.
- New clutch at time of engine replacement
- Lots of work done to the fussy parts such as replacement gear for the Odometer, wiper motor, hatch pins, brakes, and bearings.
- Has bolt in roll bar
- Recently replaced hatch seal
- Lots of other new parts in there
- Converted Power to manual steering
- AC delete with Lindsay Racing bracket
- Allegedly the transmission is LSD but I was not able to really confirm this. The option sticker said it was, I couldn’t find the code.
It still needs a lot of TLC and some parts repaired replaced.
- Bodywork not great, looks like it was repainted on the left side before I bought it, paint started to come off there and some surface rust.
- Hood looks like it had some hail on it, been that way ever since I bought it
- Some dings and dents that aren’t too terrible. Definitely could use some minor body work but I bought it as a track car so I didn’t care about that much
- Oil weep from what appears to be the oil filter housing/cooling area. I’ve used Oil dye to trace and that’s 100% where it is leaking from and have a replacement part that can go there.
- Interior trim on roof not that great, removed the one on the sunroof so I could fit with a race helmet.
- Parking break only on one side, needs adjustment to engage
- Needs suspension replacement (have new parts for converting to inserts - Koni)
- Could use a new fuel level sensor but I’ve lived with the current one for years.
- Clock doesn’t work,
- Previous owner disabled electric mirrors.
- Needs repair on sunroof and new seal, currently have tape to seal it off.
- Hatch started moving from the top recently so I added silicone to seal it
- Exhaust is not original. I still have it, but had to cut some of the pieces. It could be returned to service if you weld it with new exhaust pipe.
- The pictures will show the condition of the car.
I have a lot of parts, many are new.
- Brand new manual steering rack (not installed)
- New Radiator aftermarket (not installed)
- Various gaskets and seals
- Parts from the back seat
- Original AC compressor from old car
- New Koni inserts (would need to modify the originals) + accessories
- Used front suspension that I was going to use for the inserts
- I have an extra torque tube that came off the car but needs new bearings.

If car is already sold, no worries. Transporting it to Santa Fe is only hurdle at my end, because I'll hafta send my buddy there via JetBlue or American! Thanks, Evan Rommel
P S I had an old 1986 944 (no longer have it!) which I had custom-shoppe painted Carribean Teal (Eurovan flat colour) by a Porsche Dealership; they're pretty easy cars to have if one's not racing and using it for daily driving only. In my opinion.
