Description:

This post will be a work in progress, so I'll update with more information as I have time. Most importantly, this is a branded title GT3. There's supposedly a thread somewhere here on Rennlist documenting it (another member mentioned it, if someone can find it, I'd be super grateful) but the history with this car is that two POs ago, his crazy significant other decided to take out her frustrations on the car...dented panels, broke headlights, smashed windows and took a knife to a large part of the interior. Nothing mechanical. The car ended up getting a glass out respray. When I bought it from the previous owner, a fellow RLer out of Lousiville, the shop that did the PPI was surprised at how nice of a job they did on the paint given it was a respray.

I've done a lot to this car while owning it, most of which has been documented here:

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-gt2-...lack-6gt3.html

Selling this car is probably something that I'll regret in the future, but probably not for several years from now. The reality is that I work too much to enjoy this car and we're looking to move near Sunset Plaza area, which, for those familiar with LA means it's even a bigger pain/event to get to good driving roads (unless your idea of driving is doing laps up and down Sunset and Rodeo). I'd rather pass this onto someone that will cherish it and it'll free up a spot in my garage for something that I'll get more frequent dosage of fun out of (have my eye on a nut and bolt, LS swapped defender). All in all, I bought this car intending to keep it forever and it was treated as such. The wrap and finalizing of the interior was further dedication to keeping it forever but I also have an uncanny thing where I tend to begin looking once I finish a project.

Maintenance history:
07/24/2021        Rennline Wheel Studs, BBS RE795, Bosch Wipers, GT3 Center Console Delete
07/05/2021        3x Bosch O2 sensors, OEM intake filter, M&M Headers, X-Pipe and muffler bypass
08/13/2021        Rebuilt calipers (Racing Brake Rebuild Kit), new brake lines, brake fluid change (Castrol SRF), Pagid front pads
09/06/2021        Ohlins R&T, Mode Rear Upper Mounts & Hats
03/26/2022        Re-upholster dash in Alcantara
04/15/2022        Oil change (Mobil 1 0w-40), spark plugs, ignition coils
07/20/2022        Replace horns with upgrade OEM (992), clean radiators
11/23/2023        Retrofit Labs Bi-LED Headlight Retrofit Kit
12/01/2023        Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
04/12/2024        Pure PPF Miami Blue Wrap
04/12/2024        Custom Recaro Pole Position Seats
05/06/2024        Oil Change (Mobil 1 0w-40)

I probably have close to $100K into the car (don't tell my wife). I probably would have done fine on this car if I didn't get it wrapped and got the custom Recaros but, whatever, it is what it is.

A note for California buyers: this car will not pass smog, plan accordingly. I have the OEM cats but they are shot and I couldn't get the readiness monitors to trigger with borrowed cats from 4porsh.

Upgrades:

  1. M&M Headers (Manthey OEM) and X Pipe, muffler bypass
  2. RS Front Bumper
  3. Custom deviated stitching carbon fiber Recaro Pole Positions
  4. Alcantara Dash
  5. Gloss black horseshoe dash piece, dash trim strips and center console
  6. Custom 997 GT3 shift ****
  7. Ohlins R&T suspension
  8. BBS RE795 Magnesium (16/17lbs) Manthey Wheels (this is a factory wheel from Manthey)
  9. BiLED Retrofit Labs Headlights
  10. Brand new Pure PPF Wrap with a 7 year warranty (significantly better than vinyl, looks like paint)
  11. Custom yellow seatbelts
  12. Lightweight flywheel
I'm probably forgetting a few things. So here's some misc notes:
  • Oh, coolant lines haven't been dealt with.
  • The clutch is stiff but it's not slipping, so it'll need to be replaced eventually but is fine for awhile longer.
  • I did not track the car but there's cutouts in the carpet indicating it had a cage at one point.
  • I have two Blackstone analyses I can share
  • The AC unit has scratches
  • The car spent some time outside before it got resprayed so there's some rust on some parts but I dealt with a lot of that when I redid the suspension (ask me how you turn a one day job into a two week long job...it's always that one bolt....)
  • I have stock mufflers but a shop did a terrible job trying to do a Fister mod so...yeah...
  • I have stock cats but they are non functional
  • Prior to wrapping the car, the paint was in driver quality condition. It was due for a paint correction but that would've been pretty easy to get it looking really nice. There's some scuffs and scratches on the drivers door jamb. When I got it PPF'd, they added ppf (for my dog) on the passenger side and it looks amazing, should have asked them to do the driver's side too.
  • I've already managed to scuff the bottom front lip, so there's some jaggedness on the PPF under the lip but you can't see it
Did I mention that the second you turn the ignition on, you forget about everything else and realize you're about to drive a race car for the streets?

Here's a photo album chronicling it's life with me:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/CiUvp2URFQ9LgaBQ8

I am pricing this for a quick, easy sell. Preference and priority will be for someone that is knowledgeable about these cars, will enjoy the hell out of it and is easy to deal with.

GLWS! Wouldn’t be surprised if we see you back in a non-black 6/GT3 someday.

Man, I used to live in LA, sunset down to the beach and you're right in the canyons. I miss those roads.

Maybe, but that would be my future future ex-wife lol. The last rounds of mods were to prevent me from pulling the trigger on a 997.2 GT3 in a Skittles color. So, if I end up in a performance car again, I'll probably dabble in the later gen first (or do something crazy and get one of those Rubystone 964 RS's) and then maybe come to the realization that the 996 was as special as I believed it to be and that's all I need.

Yeah, definitely spoiled here. If I lived in Westlake Village though, I'd be driving this thing nearly every evening since the roads are so epic and like 5 minutes from anywhere in Westlake. But, with my limited time, when I'm forced to choose, I grab my bicycle to enjoy the roads these days.

Best wishes on the sale.
Sad but true for several of these cars.

The beauty of living in Thousand Oaks and having my office on Westlake Blvd and Townsgate. Sometimes I take a detour when leaving work

Good luck with sale, great price for someone who wants a great drivers example.

BTW, if the magnesium wheels scare you, there's a few people that would be interested in them and a local guy to me has gloss black OEM GT3 wheels that I could help facilitate swapping for. With that being said, I have had those wheels on two different cars and no issues with rough roads like Big Tujunga. Granted, we don't have the crazy **** some of y'all have in the midwest. I remember picking up this car in Louisville in the spring and hoping the car would survive the freeway stretch.

Love this so much.

I doubt you have any interest in going back to a 4/98 996 (as a partial trade), but thats really the only way I think I can spring from mine to yours... with a suitcase of cash included, of course.

Only trades I'd entertain at the moment is a low miles 2018+ Mercedes G550/G63 in Arabian Gray or China Blue (for the wife) or a fully restored Land Rover Defender with LS3 (preferably Twisted or Arkonik). I'm flying out today to Vegas to pick up a Cayenne GTS so I would've taken one of those in trade but I'm expecting the deal should go through.

followed your first 996 build, Surprised to see you selling your GT3. $80K seems like a bargain for this car.

If a buyer is serious, I'm willing to revert it back to stock (and possibly remove the wrap). I'm just hesitant to do that since I'm not 100% convinced I'll sell the car and I'd much rather keep it as is. If anyone is concerned about the condition of the paint underneath, I can have you speak to the owner of Diamond Auto. My relationship with them is only as a one time customer but they wrapped it recently enough that he should remember.

I can also install the stock headers, cats and muffler.

Default Potential Trade

I have a 2002 G500 that’s in pretty great shape and well maintained. I don’t know if that’s something you’d be interested in, I would obviously add cash
