RSS Tarmac Engine Moutns 996 / 997
For SaleDrivetrain
Description:
Hi all,
This a pair of used RSS Tarmac Engine mounts that retail for $475.
From the RSS marketing materials: Fits 2005 - 2012 Porsche 911 (including all variants)
The previous owner installed them on my 2009 997.2 12000 miles ago. Nothing wrong with them, but a bit too stiff for my delicate sensibilities, so I'm putting the car back to stock.
They're still in my car at the moment, so won't be able to ship these until I get the new stock mounts installed.
Price includes ground shipping in CONUS.
Here's the link to the other classified listing. I'm not sure I understand why there are two sets of classifieds, but if I read the instructions correctly, I'm supposed to post in both places.

That’s the trade off. Original mounts are softer and damp out idle vibration, Semi-solid mounts keep the engine from moving around, but transfer more vibration into the chassis. You can feel it at idle.

I thought I would only notice the difference at idle, but I was wrong. The difference is much bigger than just annoying vibration at idle... whole car feels softer now!
Sure, the RSS marketing messages talk about better handling, but I didn't believe it:
- The RSS Tarmac Series Performance Engine Mounts are designed for the Porsche driver who demands the absolute maximum in precision handling, feedback and control from their chassis.
- With factory hydraulic engine mounts, the drivetrain will move independent of the chassis during acceleration, deceleration and cornering loads. This movement can upset the balance of the vehicle and create negative handling effects.
- Our performance engine mounts minimize these effects by utilizing specialized polyurethane bushings which offer a firmer, more direct driving feel with optimum feedback.
If I had PASM or didn't drive primarily on super-rough Texas state highways I would be putting these mounts right back on the car.
For me, going back to factory mounts is actually an improvement. The car felt really harsh over the rough and bumpy hill country pavement and I'm astonished how much of a difference the motor mounts have made.
People come from all over the place to drive the Three Sisters highways that are right outside my driveway. The views are beautiful. But, oh my gosh.. the pavement is rough...
So, here's your chance to get a big improvement in handling for ~$200 discount off of the normal price of these mounts!
