Shipping invoice picture attached. M64.23, which is a 1996 model engine. It's not a great pic under the plastic. I will try to get a better pic this week - engine is at the shop where my project car is being done.

Thanks for the helpful criticism.

For anyone seriously interested, I can get you the contact info for the Nashville based indy shop that helped with the purchase and are keeping it for me so I don't have to haul it to my house and back. I'm sure they can help with any details.

I had my shop check both 964 and 993 cars he had in house. He confirmed the valve covers are identical to the 993 car he has in the shop currently (and completely different than the 964).

Valve covers on 993's always been plastic from day1, 964 always been Magnesium from Day1, so something is a miss....

So after more digging, the valve covers are the 964 magnesium version. Apparently interchangeable with the 993 engines. Rebuilder chose to use metal instead of plastic.

It does have the plastic timing covers.

Timing chain covers on these engines (964/993) are magnesium.

Please post a pic showing the crank bolt - that will settle the debate.

I've been reading lots of threads here on Rennlist on the timing cover. Apparently it is magnesium (with old debate about it being some sort of polyamide). Anyway, they are black and look similar to the OE plastic valve covers.
I'll see if the shop can get me a picture of the crank bolt and get it posted.

Still something amiss, type# states a 993 block., so perhaps they used a 993 block in a previous 964 rebuild...???
If so, it has 964 innards by the use of the pulley/damper,etc, I will say its a hybrid,
