Carmine 981 GT4 with full DeMan 4.5L treatment
For SaleDeMan has a stellar reputation and has been extensively covered both on this forum and in enthusiast media outlets. A quick search of the forum will turn up threads with hundreds of posts from other owners and Rick DeMan himself.
Always a bit of a risk, but per the post above, there are plenty of these builds out there running strong. I've heard good things about DeMan in terms of standing behind a build, but legally, no one will warrant them against defect or failure.
I've strongly considered sending mine off for the treatment, but had a 4.2 M97 motor implode with no warranty (NOT DeMan), and swore nothing but stock GT internals moving forward. That said, still very tempting . . . With proper chassis mods, this should be 4RS performance but with a manual.
Had a great time with the car at Buttonwillow two weekends ago attending a race driver clinic put on by the POC. Also attended an open track day the day before. My buddy just purchased a 991.2 Cup car. I had a chance to drive it (wow!) but more relevant to this thread, we had several opportunities to "drag race" coming out of the final corner side by side on to the front straight between Sunrise and Sunset (we were running CCW). I'm guessing it's around 1800 feet. He had me by about 2 car lengths by the time we both got to the braking zone. Both on slicks. Considering the cup car weighs around 500 lbs less and has a sequential gearbox, I was impressed. This car is strong.

Wouldn't bet on it. Would likely pass visual, but cats would need to be reinstalled and YMMV if it passes sniffer with headers and other mods. As I understand it, starting last summer an ECU software tune fails smog and this definitely has custom tuning to match the internal changes. Maybe @Rick DeMan could weigh in on CARB legality?

I am a Montana resident. I'm not saying my car is CA legal. I have no idea. And I know nothing about more recent regulations. But I'm just offering some data points that suggest perhaps it can be done. If you're serious about the car, you might consider giving Rick a call and ask him.

This sent me down a rabbit hole of researching the Deman 4.5L transformation! Looks like the 4.5L paired with the short gear set transforms the GT4 into the perfect Cayman with more torque/whp than a GT3. GLWS (unless I can figure out a way to stretch the budget sometime soon)
