Up for sale is my uniquely specced E46 Touring. I bought it a few months ago because I love wagons — particularly colorful, manual, rust-free ones — but I simply have too many cars and need to make room in the driveway.
HISTORY: This Touring was originally delivered to Plaza BMW in Missouri and was owned in Missouri, Louisiana, Maryland, and Virginia before me (non-rust belt states!). The car does have two damage reports on record, but it presents well. There is also a potential odometer rollback listed, but even if this is correct and not a clerical error, the car at worst has 5k more miles than it indicates (there is no tamper dot). The airbag recall was recently completed. I've put about 1,300 miles on the car under my ownership.
EXTERIOR: The car is in great shape overall, with a couple of dings and rock chips that one would expect from a car of this age and mileage. The color is truly beautiful; I often find myself just walking around the car and taking a few minutes to look at it. There is zero rust, which is pretty rare for an AWD wagon. I recently had the left quarter panel and the hatch repainted to address a scuff and the badge outline from debadging, respectively (can provide "before" photos); the work was done to a high standard. The windshield is free of chips. I think the car looks pretty great with the unique paint, clear turn signals, and Style 68 wheels. For what it's worth, the panels might look like they're different shades in the pictures, but that seems to just be how Grey Green photographs due to its slight color-shifting nature (look at other photos on Google). In person, it looks good.
INTERIOR: The interior is also in good shape. The headliner is perfect with no sagging whatsoever, and the steering wheel leather is really nice. I installed a set of BMW Individual Birch wood trim that is in really nice shape and really complements the Natural Brown color. I even replaced the center console and cupholders with new OEM parts just because the soft-touch finish was peeling. I also installed brand-new xi-specific OEM floor mats. Everything in the interior works, and the windows operate perfectly. The biggest issue is the driver's seat stitching is coming apart in some areas, but this may be able to be restitched. I have also noticed the steering wheel slipring is starting to squeak ever so slightly in the colder weather, but this is easily fixed with a replacement slipring on eBay. The ambient temperature sensor is broken and reading -40F (very common issue, a $20 part). Other notes include a nappa leather armrest and nappa leather shift boot from an E46 M3, both in nice shape, and an AC Schnitzer shift **** and matching AC Schnitzer handbrake handle. I might be biased, but I think it all comes together really nicely. Will also include a set of OEM all-weather mats.
MECHANICALS: Prior to my purchase, the previous owner, a mechanic, installed a new clutch, starter, steering rack, front CV joints, carrier bearing, front and rear driveshaft, and front brakes in the past few thousand miles. Here's what I've done:
- Liqui-Moly 5W-30 oil w/ Mann filter (just done)
- Hella OE oil level sensor
- Redline D4 ATF transmission fluid w/ new plugs
- German Auto Solutions (GAS) DISA valve upgrade (metal flap)
- Corteco cabin air filter
- 4-wheel alignment
The car runs very smoothly and idles perfectly. There's no check engine light or any other warning lights on the dash. The car passed NJ inspection the other day with no issues. The tires are Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 all-seasons with plenty of meat. There are two minor remaining issues — there is a vibration/resonance that appears from 65 to 75mph; I believe it's due to an improperly balanced tire or potentially a bent wheel. Also, the shifter has some play. I would not hesitate to drive this car across the country; the M54 is notoriously reliable.
MODIFICATIONS & EXTRAS: I've already mentioned a few, but here's a full list:
- OEM Style 68 wheels: Staggered from a 330Ci Sport, wearing Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 all-season tires with good tread. I also have a full-size spare with matching tire, so 5 wheels in total. (There's already a space-saver in the trunk.)
- OEM Individual Birch trim: This was an option from BMW Individual that I spent way too much money on. The birch is very pretty and kind of shifts depending on where you look at it from. It's in awesome shape overall. I also have the accompanying auto shift **** (if you decide to sell the trim down the line) and the original mahogany trim if you want it (not in great shape).
- OEM Euro tail lights + Depo front/side indicators: Pretty straightforward, they're clear turn signal lenses. Purchased new. Original amber lights included if you want them.
- GP Thunder chrome turn signal bulbs: Installed in the front and rear to get rid of the "egg yolk" look.
- AC Schnitzer shift **** + handbrake handle: I think they look pretty nice in there. The **** has some dents in the bottom that might benefit from some TLC. The handle is missing a chrome cap on the top. Original **** and handle included if I can find them.
- OEM E46 M3 leather armrest and shift boot: Much nicer-quality leather than the stock car and in excellent shape overall. Original parts included if I can find them.
- GAS DISA: Upgraded metal flap and pin design to address a design flaw in the original DISA.
- window tint: It's pretty dark, unknown percentage/type.
- OEM all-weather mats: Came with the car; I personally don't like them, hence why I bought new OEM carpeted mats, but they'll come in the trunk.
- Blitzsafe audio adapter in the trunk: Not sure how it works, but maybe you can figure it out?
Asking $16,000. The car will come with two keys, the owner's manuals, some service records, and the spare parts listed above. Clean title in hand. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for looking!
