The '86.5 models have the S4 suspension and brakes making it desirable in the “S” model line-up.

The engine starts strong every time & runs great. Had 288hp/305ft-lb stock but improved with intermediate resonators removed (has rear muffler). It is really a lot of fun to drive with that torque & it handles so great on the bends. It hasn’t been abused & was shifted no higher than 5000 rpm during my time with it since 2006.

It has the all leather interior, which shows its age but no tears in seats, headliner, door panels or rear quarter panels. Leather dash is separated from defrost vents as shown in picture.

Paint is mostly good but shows some scars from 34+ years of life. Previous owner used as track and autocross car so mirrors show rash from that. Has a couple of blemishes as noted in Known Issues section below.

Previous owner had it maintained by Leif Johnson at Autowerks Northwest (factory trained for 928s), and I continued that maintenance for powertrain. He has since retired though.

Here’s a run-down of its set-up.

1986.5 928 S 5-speed; 32v, 4 cam, 5 liter

• Indischrot red exterior with black/tan interior
• 146,3xx miles
• Turbo twist wheels with colored crest shod with BF Goodrich g-force super sport 225/452R-17 and 255/40R-17 tires
• Cross-drilled (cast hole, actually) rotors with track pads.
• Eibach spring & externally adjustable Koni shock setup.
• Limited slip differential (originally had an open diff).
• Intermediate resonators (mufflers) went missing long ago. Still has the main muffler.
• Timing belt & water pump checked good 2 years ago by Autowerks. Needs to be rechecked and probably changed
• New shifter bushing - front
• Battery cut-off switch
• Alpine MP3/CD stereo and upgraded speakers front and back seats. Far back speakers inop.
• Have most service records
• Clean title
• Have CD & paper workshop manuals
• Two keys

• Electrical intermittence for windows and sunroof (new switches)
• Windshield wipers front and rear don’t work
• AC has been converted to R134A but doesn’t hold pressure.
• Rear hatch doesn’t open with switches but does with key
• Passenger side: door poke and dent/scratch behind rear wheel (see pics – shop estimate is $400 to fix and color match)
• Seat levers for folding seats down operate but handles don’t stay on. Have new lever parts.
• Passenger rear sun visor: plastic mount broke on one side.
