Description:

Up for sale is my 2006 Seal Grey Carrera S. After only a couple of years and couple thousand miles I've decided that I just don't have the time to enjoy the car as much as I'd like. I purchased the car from a fellow Rennlister back in February of 2019 in San Francisco and had it shipped cross country to me in Chicago where it's always been kept in my heated garage/hangar. At the time the car had 86,800 miles on it and since then I've added only 2100 miles to it. With my work schedule being as crazy as it is and a child on the way I'm sure my chances of driving it will go down even more. The prior owner purchased it from someone I believe in Florida and that I think was the original owner. I do have a binder full of maintenance records dating back to delivery. Interestingly enough through some internet searching it appears the original owner was in the Army and deployed to Germany where he shipped the car over, so there is quite a few service records from various German shops while it was there. I do believe given the modifications that it has that the first owner likely tracked it but neither myself nor the previous owner can verify that nor did we track it ourselves.

Under my ownership I drove the car the first summer and in October of last year at 88,100 miles I preformed an oil change with Motul 5W-30 and an OEM filter with new housing and drain plug. At the same time I replaced both Engine Air Filter and Cabin Air Filter with Mahle units. When I bought it I knew I would have to replace the front windshield due to a small crack and the typical pitting that these cars get especially at the mileage this car has. This past weekend Safelite came out and replaced the windshield with an aftermarket unit that is identical in specs to the original.

While the car was in Germany it had Bilstein PSS9 coilovers installed on 10/15. There's new motor mounts which look like Rennline units that come with a couple different inserts for more stiffness but I'm not sure when they were installed. At some point GT2 seats were installed but I don't have a clue when and sadly I don't have the stock seats, more on this later. I cant read German but on 5/15 the car had a new Sachs clutch and FVD lightweight flywheel installed. I can't tell what mileage this was done since all the service records are in German. I do have multiple pages of service invoices from German Porsche dealerships and also independent shops where general maintenance was done such fluids filter spark plugs etc etc. When the car came back stateside the owner had all four brakes replaced at 78000 miles to include OEM rotors, PFC 7818 pads, and RS683 brake fluid.

The owner I bought the vehicle from added some visual mods to the car to include clear side markers, I still have the Amber OEM's, Black stone guards in front of the rear wheels, and he removed the original Carrera S badge on the rear deck lid and replaced it with a 991 Porsche badge which actually looks really clean. I believe he said there was a leak coming from the coolant overflow reservoir but that has also been replaced with a new unit. At 84,951 miles he had the car aligned and the rear tires replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S while the front wears Pilot Sport N2's that were replaced in March of 2016 while in Germany. If I were planning on keeping the car I would swap the fronts over to the 4S myself just so they're matching. What I can't tell is the mileage on the front tires, from the last German receipt of tire replacement I have it's dated 3/16 the next receipt I have was from that same original owner but in Florida and it's dated 9/17 with 78,000 miles so at the very least there is 10000 miles on the front tires but likely more.

There is a clear bra installed on the car that I think was done shortly after delivery on the front bumper, first third of the hood, headlights and the side mirrors. This is an old install so if you're familiar with modern day edge less installs it's nothing like that. It's done its job though and prevented a ton of rock chips but it needs to be refreshed. There's also an old K40 radar installed but I disconnected it when I took the front bumper off to clean out the radiators.

The biggest issue that's going to come up with selling the car is the price due to the seats. If someone wants GT2 buckets in exchange for stock 997.1 seats plus cash send me a PM. Otherwise I'm pricing the car at $37,000 with the seats if I can work out a deal outside of them and get some stock seats I'll have the car listed at $29,000. I live right near Olsen Motorsports here in Chicago that I can take the car to for a PPI in adition I'll split the cost with the prospective buyer. For as much mileage as the car has it's in really great shape but it does have its wear and tear, you will see some rock chips and some very very hard to notice minor door dings. The rear bumper has a small ripple but there's no paint damage so I have no idea what caused it. The wheels do have some chipping but otherwise show very well, I just ceramic coated them so they clean up really well. The plastic under the hood has also been coated and looks great! Interior wise it shows its age with minor wear marks and the climate control ***** also have their typical wear on them as well. The seats in the pictures look like they have some weird stretching but the picture just looks odd, in person they look fine. All in all for it's age and miles it's a clean car and I'm not just saying that because I'm trying to sell it. This was a great starter car into the Porsche world, my intent was to not but anything that was too expensive for fear that I wouldn't like it and then be into it for way too much money. To that end this car totally served its purpose, for a future buyer if you're unsure about the brand this will be a great introduction to the Porsche world and would make a great entry level weekend track car without having any fear of being upside down. Hopefully whoever the next owner is will enjoy it more than I did! Any other questions please reach out to me via PM and I'll get back to you right away. I'm available basically 24/7 so just reach out to me and we can setup a viewing.

I am the owner of a 997 myself, a .2 C4S. I have driven THIS car offered for sale and will unequivocally say that it drives beautifully and looks great! Honestly, the pictures really don't do it justice. The car is tight and solid. Because of the PSS9's, it drives more like a "proper" 911 should, in my opinion - very stable and planted. It is absolutely planted on the road and is a hands-off driver at all speeds I ran it to, say up to about 85 or so. It has no tendency to tramline or to follow imperfections in the road.

I'm not sure if the ad mentioned this, but it has a beautiful sounding aftermarket exhaust that brings out that flat 6 music perfectly without being remotely obnoxious, and it exhibited no drone at any RPM when I drove it.

Like the seller mentioned, this is an awesome first Porsche for someone.

Absolutely stunning car, the pictures fall far short of conveying what a nice example this is, what a bargain.

Thanks guys, I’m far from a photographer but if someone is looking for certain photos let me know and I’ll snap some more and get them posted.

Looks like a solid car! Have you ever gotten a DME readout?

I haven’t but I’ll split the cost of a PPI with whatever prospective buyer if they want it done. $150 is what a shop local to me charges and that includes the DME. Also I’ve had no luck finding stock seats so for now the car is being sold as is with the buckets.

Thanks! I’m sure we’ve seen each others cars either downtown on a Friday or cruising around.

9 Vehicles Porsche Helped Engineer that Aren't Porsches

Slideshow: Long before engineering consulting became trendy, Porsche was quietly helping other automakers build everything from supercars to economy hatchbacks.
