Description:
This is the only US destined 88' 951S in Nautic Blue Metallic (Code Q2). It's really a shame they only made one with this color, it's absolutely beautiful! I got married in 2019 and moved to an apartment with my wife. I no longer have suitable interior storage for this car and it deserves a nice garage spot. I've enjoyed driving it almost daily for the last year and a half, but it's time to let it go.
- I have all service records from my ownership. (A little over $10k since Sept. 2017). I can provide pictures on request.
- Happy to provide start up and driving videos
- Car is in solid mechanical condition. Daily drive-able right away. Needs brakes soon though.
- Roof paint is rough - The owner before the PO stored the car outside in Florida. It's easy to find history on this car because people have posted about it all over the internet!
- I have some spares as well as the original tire pump, the original Koni shocks and springs, and other misc. items.
oAll maintenance performed by Eurasian Auto in Birmingham. I have all of the services records/ receipts
o171k miles - the Odometer works!
oBeing driven so mileage will increase
o3-5k mile oil change intervals - well maintained, Liqui Moli Oil (10W 60)
oTiming belt done 13k miles ago at 160,419 in Dec. 2018 (water pump, accessory belts, balance shaft belts, auxiliary water pump replaced etc.) - 15k miles left before timing belt service!
oNew head gasket (Dec. 2019), coolant flush, replaced hoses, coolant expansion tank replaced
oNew Wastegate (Tial 38mm) (car had OE wastegate, it was not working properly). It's boosts much better now!
oStock DME/KLR chips
oFull stainless exhaust system
oAlternator replaced (Feb. 2020)
ABS relay replaced Feb.2020, fixed ABS fault
New battery installed Feb. 2020
Sunroof is in perfect working order
oCommon 944 power steering leak fixed
oLess than 1,000 miles on tires (BFG Comp 2's)
oIn excellent mechanical condition
oBeautiful color combination
88' 951S, not much more to say there. Lovely car to drive. Fast, durable, somewhat practical as well!
oDaily driven for the first 18 months of ownership
The bad:
oRoof paint is rough
oWill need brakes soon (front rotors and pads all around)
oRear springs need vibration dampening - rattle over bumps (might fix before selling, needs some rubber isolators)
oVarious interior issues - central locking does not work, dash cracks (2), minor wear and tear, but overall the interior is in good shape.
oTypical 944/ transaxle car shifter slop
oRadio does not work well - only plays AM/FM, Aux plug does not work (upgraded sound system). It does work, but sound is poor. Could be the speakers themselves, install of new radio, or wiring.
Dash lights are dim
Cruise control does not work properly (It will hold the set speed for a while, and then begin slowly accelerating)
Rear hatch opens, but sometimes requires you to push down on the hatch for the key to unlock it
Windshield is very old, maybe original to the car. It doesn't need replacing, but it certainly lacks UV protection and has no sun visor strip on the top
When I buy a car I always ask: "What would you being doing maintenance wise, or upgrade wise soon if you kept it?" - so I figured I would answer that here!
If I were going to keep the car I would do front brake rotors and pads, possibly the rears as well. I would leave the paint original. I would buy rubber isolators for the rear coil overs (see PDF), and I would have the original shocks rebuilt for a slightly higher spring rate. I would also try to clean up some of the slop in the shifter, but it's a 944 so there's only so much you can do there! I do not know when the clutch was last replaced. It does not slip and bites pretty good, but seeming as though clutches are a pricey job I'd be saving up for that as well.
*** The rod bearings have not been done on this car. Rod bearings are a typical high mileage job on 951's.
Willing to Consider trade or trade + Cash for SUV (80/100 series Land Cruiser, Land Rover LR3/4, Lexus GX470, Toyota Tundra, etc.)
*I have the title in hand. There is no loan on the car, I paid cash for it.
*Comes with Porsche CoA (Now called Production Specifications)
*Located in Birmingham, AL
*Car is being driven so mileage will increase slightly

Here's a short walk around video as well as a cold start. You can clearly see the paint issues on the roof.

Very cool car! None of the issues sound that serious. It's posted on the front page, so hopefully you'll see some eyeballs on this listing. Good luck with the sale!

Also, my car has rolled rear fenders, big front ARB, Trans cooler, OE adjustable Koni front shocks, and under hood bracing. All are ways to identify an S vs standard 951.
The engine code on the car is below. It’s hard to get a picture of it because of where it is, but I can try:
M44/52
47J01238
Lastly, I’ve driven this car and a standard 951 both with stock DME/KLR chips and no other mods. Trust me, it’s an S....
“Turbo S Option Package” in the bottom corner is what you’re looking for to denote an S car be standard 88’ 951.

The VIN is in the top left, matches the VIN on the car. I found this picture in a thread online. The red arrow points to the Turbo S option package for $5,510. All of the window stickers I have seen list 217hp Turbo in the very top left, then If the car is an S it has the $5,510 option in the bottom right meaning it actually has the 247 hp M44/52 motor and all the S bells and whistles.
