Default Oil question

Got the Macan S last night

So what are your thoughts on oil? Mobil 1 0w40?

The car now has 40 miles on it, do you think it is too soon to change the oil? Maybe wait for 100 miles?

Just migrating from the 996 forum so I thought I would ask some newb questions. And trying to figure out what shop to use to put in an IMS bearing. What shop did you guys use?

If you're already thinking about oil change and IMSB, you must be from the 996 forum.

The OM recommends 0W-40 or 5W-40. I always don't know if I should opt for 0 or 5. In California, ambient temps are warmer so one would think 5 is better but at the same time engine component tolerances nowadays are much tighter so could you be under-lubricating if you went with 5 when the engine is cold? I don't know.

I'm thinking oil changes every 1000 miles or so. With my wife driving 2-3000 miles/month I will probably just change it every other weekend. I just hope I can find a spin on oil filter adapter so I can get a filter with no bypass so I don't have to worry about cylinder scoring.

As long as it is Porsche A40 approved, you should have no problem. Oil seems to be the most talked about with a vast number of opinions which amaze me. We trust the Porsche engineers on our vehicles except when it comes to oil and oil changes. I don't think I have ever seen a 1000 mile recommendation, maybe if you are tracking the car. I try to stay closer to what the Porsche engineers recommend and combined with oil testing I have seen plus the lack of anyone showing me a motor that had a oil related problem with staying with the manufactures recommendation, I will invest the money I save into tires for the track or other stuff... Good luck

LOL. He's being sarcastic. After all, he is from the fellow 996 crowd.

FWIW, I changed ours at 4,000 mi. and plan on changing sometime between 10,000 and 12,500 mi. and thereafter, every 7,500-8,000 mi. using Mobil 1 0W-40.

So, I bought mine with a pre-paid maintenance package for 4 or 5 years or so. So my oil changes are prepaid, but I won't wait for the 10000 mile service interval. I'm thinking I'll stick to a 5000 mile frequency and intermittently change the oil myself.

The people who say that Porsche recommends Mobil 1 so that should be the end of it need to tell us WHY Porsche made that decision.

Is Mobil 1 the best possible oil or did Mobil pay Porsche to be the recommended oil?

In normal driving conditions, changing oil more frequently than recommended is a waste of money. My service guys essentially refused to do ran early change on my 991 4S.

For the length of time you are keeping cars you should never change just add.
