Anyone else have this issue? Defroster blows hot air and does not adjust to inputs of temperature, only "throttle"

Yes. It is the weakest part of the HVAC system IMO. On some very wet days the Auto setting doesn't keep the windshield clear, and it takes turning on the front defroster to clear it. Unfortunately, it blows hot air at high fan speed and is not pleasant, or subtle.
