You don't really need qty. to fill for first fill-up, just fill it, reset trip odometer, drive, next fill divide miles driven by gal/liters needed to fill it back up. Cell phone calculator can give you very accurate results very quickly.

I was waiting until I put a couple K miles on her before checking mileage. On my Cayenne I was getting 14.5 - 18 depending on how I drove.

I've noticed that the computer mileage at the beginning of a drive is way overstated for the first mile or so. In the first minutes, when the car has been idling, is cold, and is in lower gears as I proceed down my road at 25 mph, the computer shows 27 mpg, then keeps coming down over the next few minutes. I expect this skews the average mileage reading somewhat. I'm averaging between 18 and 19 mpg (calculated) in mainly rural and freeway driving, with a little city mixed in. I'm only in sport mode about 10 or 20 percent of the time.

Getting 17 to 18 pretty consistently around town. On a trip cruising at 78 with the cruise control it is 23 to 24. Checked by dividing miles driven by gallons bought. of course it is the meathanol blend the government makes us buy. It would give better if I could buy pure gasoline

+1 The high mpg at start up certainly skews the accuracy

I would be really interested to know how much ethanol is actually in the fuel we're purchasing right now? Every sign I've ever seen has said up to 10% ethanol. At the price of oil vs. corn these days I'll speculate it's nowhere close to 10% right now. Like so many other things lobbyists (such as those for corn growing states) have undue influence on how our lives are run.

True about the corrupt lobbyist influence.

You can get a rough measure of ethanol in gasoline by doing a simple test:

Take a small graduated vial and half fill it with gasoline, recording the volume. Now add a known quantity of water, at least 10% of the volume of the gasoline. If you have an ethanol enriched gasoline, the water will be absorbed with no phase change. If you have straight gasoline, the fluids will not combine and you'll see two distinct layers.

You can also buy cheap fuel test kits.
http://www.fuel-testers.com/about_ethanol_fuel.html

Note that specialty fuels (marine, racing, aviation) are supposed to not have any ethanol, but those in the know still check their fuel to make sure.

I got 260 miles from fill up to the low fuel warning on my last tank. Mixed city/hwy driving, no use of Sport, auto on/off enabled. PCM said 18.0 mpg for this tank of gas, my math showed the mpg was 16.9

I am guessing that our cars are not very aerodynamic. I get better mileage ~22 in light traffic going on average 40 MPH than I do going 80 MPH - 20mpg. That is a new one for me.

Diesel isn't just about increasing mileage. Far from it. The low-end torque is amazing and ideal for daily driving. Excellent for cruising, too, unless 85mph + is more important.

Oh, my comment was to this thread in general; not to you directly. I mean, who cares? For gas mileage I have a Prius that I use as a commuter and that's it.
