Default Extended Warranty Thoughts

Figure many here have more experience with various Porsche models.

Dealer is offering $3500 for 7 years, 70k miles, Platinum Fidelity warranty on the Macan Turbo. Seems to cover a lot, anyone have experience or thoughts?

I've only had 1 car for more than 3.5 years in my life, so honestly not sure if I'll make it beyond the 4y/50m factory warranty. I wouldn't be moving away from my 958 if it weren't for the Macan Turbo. However, the extra piece of mind and the fact that it transfers or can be cancelled/prorated towards another Porsche makes it sound a little more enticing, esp on a first year model and new engine.

TIA.

Buy Factory extended warranties if you like. But Porsche does not offer one. If you plan on keeping the car beyond the 4 years, get your dealer to CPO warranty the car before the factory warranty expires. Many dealers will do this for a price and after charging you for an inspection.

I will never recommend anybody purchase a third party extended warranty, regardless if the dealer tells you it's Porsche approved or whatever.

Fidelity is the VW-badged warranty. All VW dealers have to honor it. Maybe Porsche has the same thing...dunno.

Is it different in the USA than Canada?
Both are PCNA.

I have a Porsche extended warranty on our 2012 Cayenne.

Bought it prior to the first service - it is a 5 year 160,000 km warranty.
Cost about $3k.

Warranty is based on "in-service" date from when we picked it up in Germany July 2011.
Today we have 124,000 km on the car and there has been a PCM swapped out since the 80,000 km warranty was passed.

If you are going to get the mileage or close to the mileage in the time period, a Porsche extended warranty can pay for itself.

If you aren't going to keep the car past the warranty time or mileage, why bother?

Not sure what you mean by VW-badged. Fidelity warranties can be purchased for a variety of cars. Fidelity has been recommended to me by Porsche dealers, and can be bought at any dealership, including Honda if you like. Dealerships collect a commission for selling the policy, but you don't need to buy it from a Porsche dealer even though you're insuring a Porsche. I recently cashed out my Fidelity Platinum warranty and received a check for the full pro-rated value of the unused portion.

Much of the info here is consistent with how the finance manager explained it to me yesterday. The warranty covers VW, Audi, and Porsche. If purchased, the warranty is honored nationwide at any Porsche dealership. Any unused amount can be "cancelled" for a refund on the prorated amount. Sounded kind of worthwhile, hence the ask to you all, but today is a new day and I'll be passing on it for now. Sent the paperwork back for just the car, also skipped the tire/wheel protection.

Now that I've mentally committed, excited for the car next week. The price tag is hefty enough (for me at least) for now, planning to immediately tint for summer and will almost certainly powder coat the wheels as close to satin platinum as I can get. And oh yeah, need to sell the Cayenne as well to help offset the cost!

Thanks everyone for the thoughts.

Me English not berry good... What I meant to infer is the only warranty that gets the VW logo is the one from Fidelity. All VW dealers must honor it. I, too, have received money back when I have sold previous VWs. Of course, one can purchase a warranty from another provider but with VW only one is honored at every dealer.

What I tried to imply is that perhaps the only warranty 'P' officially backs is the Fidelity one. I do not know if this is the case...I do not own a Porsche...yet. Hence the use of the word 'dunno.'

What I figured...a good guess by me. Yes, the Fidelity one is the best...no pushback by dealer. Glad it works like the VW one.

I think there are other warranty firms that Porsche dealers have honored. I checked with mine to make sure they were comfortable with the one I wanted to go with (Fidelity).

Agree. Point is, all Porsche dealers have to honor the Fidelity one.

Incorrect. Porsche dealers are independent businesses and don't HAVE to honor any company's extended warranty. But they would be silly not to. Big companies, like Fidelity and Zurich, which is even bigger, pay dealers full retail for parts and labor. Same rate as customer pay. That's why most dealers will honor them. However, it is always a good idea to call the dealer you will most likely take your vehicle to for repairs to see if they are familiar with the plan that you are thinking about buying.

Isn't the official Porsche branded extended warranty a Fidelity one? Pretty sure that is the case...thus my point that all Porsche dealers must honor the Porsche branded extended warranty.

Or, do Porsche dealers, being independently-owned, have the right to ignore the Porsche-branded extended warranty?

What am I missing?

Does your insurance company offer a warranty? Geico does, it's not bumper to bumper but it is all mechanical. I always add it, for me it's $340 a year.
