Porsches are expensive to own, for sure, and depreciate. I have a 2017 Cayenne Turbo which I bought used. It was $178k MSRP and I bought it for $58k as a lease return when it was 4 years old. That's $120k depreciation in 4 years. I've done most of the work myself on it, and it's costing me about $3-4k/year in parts to fix stuff that breaks, labor being my own. Things like brake jobs, fluids, are totally fine if you do it yourself, but the extra Porsche costs are annoying. I've had a differential, soft close actuators, electric parking brakes, an HVAC fan, and coolant pipes fail.

We intend to keep the Macan a very long time, and my wife loved it and she's not into buying used cars, so we have a shiny new Macan once the boat arrives, and yes, I feel fleeced for what it is.

What really drives me up a wall with modern Porsches is that the electronics aren't supported for very long. These cars have integrated maps and all kinds of other crap that stops working after a few years or can't be updated.

The used market is in a freefall for everything right now with the collapse of that sub-prime lender and all of the projected repos this year. I have an M340i on order and have been watching the value of my 2020 S with 45k on it the last month just trying to guess what my trade offer will be. Ran it on Car Max a month ago and yesterday. Went from $34k purchase to $31k in four weeks. If it drops too low I will just keep it and use it occasionally, as I just did all four brakes, it has new tires, and I did the service on the PDK and transfer case. I guess I will see what the dealer offers when the time comes.

If you are looking used, your cash is king right now, but sellers are in for a rude awakening.

Definitely hold your Macan. I have a 2017 Turbo with a really high spec ($98k) and the trade-in offer at Porsche on a new CGTS was appalling. Trade in numbers are low across the board period. And if you arent getting within 10% of what youd get on private marketplace, better off not trading these days.

You are right. It is crazy how low mileage 23 or 24 model prices fell in the last few months while in the same time the new car prices went up the roof. You can get a sub 10k miles 23 model for around $45k these days while the same car brand news is offered for $75k and up....
