The second 25% is the looks. I like how the brand styles their cars.

As for the Porsche tax, over the 30 years that I've owned them and in the 25 years prior to that my father owning them I/we learned how to avoid it. I can source nearly any OEM part at the proper price. That said there are some OE Porsche parts that are worth the money. In particular the brake rotors. For some strange reason Porsche OE brake rotors are of a higher quality than aftermarket OEM, as are some other parts, but that makes them worth the tax.
On this we can agree.

After years of owning BMW M cars going back to the mid 80's, I can recall when spark plugs for an M635 were $40 each. Outrageous at the time but people adapted and discovered other sources that worked as well. But my two Porsches are way more of an investment than the BMWs, so I am less inclined to source Chinese substitute parts for such an expensive duo.

That is my point in all this, they are not "Chinese substitute" parts. They are sometimes OE parts made in China.

The Volkswagen group has huge parts manufacturing facilities in China and other countries outside of Germany. Parts are sourced from all over the world for all the car brands including Porsche. Just because you bought a part from your Porsche dealer in a Porsche box doesn't mean it wasn't made in China, or Brazil, or Ukraine, or Bulgaria, or wherever. That's the f-you.

Your comment makes the assumption that all parts made in China are the same. Nothing could be further from reality. VW/Porsche/Audi are responsible for the QC for any OEM part, no matter where its manufactured. After market parts from Hengst, Mahle, etc are believed to have the same quality as OEM because they often supply the OEM and meet specifications provided by the OEM. The same is certainly not true with the random Chinese manufacturer. If you could rely on the Chinese manufacturer to be the OEM supplier to VW and meet fully all its specs, then sure buy Chinese. But I suggest the random EBay Chinese source has no relationship with Porsche. They are simply copying Porsche parts in the quest for a quick buck. Some do a good job of making copies, some do not.

My point being just because Porsche/Audi may have some parts made in China, one cannot assume that all Chinese sources will produce parts of Porsche quality.

I never said we could assume that.
