Can anyone comment on the long-term reliability of the base Macan? For example, I believe it has basically the same 2.0L engine as Audi which has had all kinds of (oil burning) problems in the past. Is one better off selling the car after the warranty (factory or extended) expires?
From what I have read the oil burning issues were mostly cured with the third generation of the EA888 engine which was introduced in 2014 so no Macans suffer from the problem.
That said, in general all turbocharged engines consume oil at a greater rate than normally aspirated ones. It is just the nature of the beast.
I have found the best way to combat/prevent oil consumption with turbo engines is to change the oil every 5000 miles rather than the 10,000 the manual suggests.
The engine wouldn't be the issue, it's very easy to service and generally very reliable in the later iterations.
Otherwise, it's the same as any other Macan. Keep up with the drivetrain maintenance, especially the transmission, and transfer case, and you should be fine. A newer CPO would be your best bet since you have the factory warranty plus the additional 2 years.
My 2015 Macan S made it to 90k and while I had to resolve known issues under warranty the only thing I had to do between 50k and 90k miles was to change transfer case oil which fixed stuttering. I was planning to drive it to the ground but the dude behind me in his 6.3 liter truck had other plans.
Long story short is as long as you maintain the car and resolve known issues under warranty I wouldn't hesitate keeping it long term.
