Brake Dust Question

There are no front pads available for base model on 2022+. I prefer EBC redstuff or Hawk HPS but non of them make pads for base front brakes. If you have older model, you will be able to find one.

The only brand available there are Dynamic Friction. I have no idea if those are any better than OE nor if they actually fit. The 2021+ front caliper was changed to a larger four piston design, making it more rare and with less pad availability. If I can find it implemented on another model (like the older 4 piston design is) that may make it easier to find other pad options.

Porsche must have changed the brake pads for 2024 models because I have no complaints about the brake dust generated by my Macan S. With other cars I've had, there was so much brake dust that I changed the brake pads right away. Brake dust was reduced considerably when I replaced my brake pads with Akebono or Powerstop Evolution ceramic pads with no effect on rotor life and no increase in brake noise. BTW, brake dust on European cars decreased markedly when JD Power started putting quesions about brake dust on their inital quality survey. I thought that was the end of brake dust that you used to see on all MBs and BMWs.

Yes. Simple explanation is that rotors wear. Correct? Pads wear also. The pads generate the most junk. However on my wife’s Benz, she has compound rotors. After I wash it and gets parked overnight? You’d think the emergency brake was on. It’s the rust created by water and steel and small pieces of the pad materials. I believe they’re mostly carbon. Think pencils…Lead. Carbon. Dust.

So what kind of pads and rotors the '22 GTS has? The brakes on mine look HUGE! I was surprised. Was expecting that on a GT car, but not a Macan. Just hope they don't dust accordingly. Ha ha. Also hope they last long, but we'll see.

posted this in another thread about brake dust:
I went with Hawk ceramics on my '18 GTS. I haven't experienced any fade but I don't drive this car hard. They reduced the brake dust by about 75% compared to OEM. No complaints, I only wish I installed them sooner.

I remember reading threads in the 911 forums where fellas would spring for the $8+K ceramic brakes just to avoid the dust. Me, I'd rather just clean the wheels and spend the $8K on something else.
BMW and MB were just as bad as Porsche... BMW has found a good compromise and I don't do MB any more... but it's always a trade-off. If you want superior braking performance, then you're going to get some dust. If you want clean wheels, then you're not going to get the initial bite and fade resistance.
The Macan is the wife's car, and I want it to have the best braking experience possible. I'll put up with some dirt (I do all of the vehicle maintenance) so that she's safe.
