Default All Terrain Tires On My Macan S

I know most guys will say the Macan is not an off-road car and I agree, it’s not. Nor is a 911 but people have been taking their 911s off pavement for years. I’ve had my fair share of 4Runners and the Macan doesn’t come close to the ability of one, not even a Cayenne. But I wanted to do something different and have fun with it. So here’s the start!

I’ve reached out to E-Motion who’s been building overland Cayennes for several years for help and here’s the set up they came up with:
Falken Tire Wildpeak AT3 265/60-18
Braid Wheels 18x8 +21 (using a 15mm spacer in the rear.

I’ll post more photos later but here she is for now!

That looks great!

Be wary with too much spacer paired with higher rotating mass. I was experimenting in the opposite direction with smaller/lighter performance tires on my 20" OE wheels and I was testing out various combinations of 10, 15 and 20mm spacers. I ran a 275/40/20 tire in the rear just fine with a 20mm spacer but when I ran a larger 285/40 tire, I heard a subtle, high pitched whine at 40-55mph, regardless of gear, rpm, or being in neutral or drive.

I deduced it was one of the rear wheel bearings. I removed the spacers and the noise was gone. It seems there is a limit to the leverage and overall rotating mass on the bearings, at least in my case.

That's interesting. You heard the noice even at a stop? If the car is rolling, the noise could be coming from a the lug bolts being too long if you used to extended bolts. I've never really experienced any issues with spacers but I'm curious to how yours created that sound.

The noise was only at 40-55mph but placing the transmission in N at those speeds didn't change noise. The lug bolts are fine since I used the same spacers on the smaller tire with no issues. My best guess is too much strain on the wheel bearing. 20mm is a lot of spacer for stock offset wheels.
