After noting a subtle rotational noise coinciding with vehicle speed I took it into a local Indy shop. They discovered a failing carrier bearing on the driveshaft. They further advised that the recommended repair (per Porsche) is a complete changeout of the driveshaft c/w the carrier bearing. Some internet sleuthing leads me to conclude that my experience with a failed carrier bearing is not a one-off. I also note that there are a couple of suppliers of improved carrier bearings which would suggest that a less expensive repair would have replaced just the bearing. Anyone have any experience with this issue? I’ve gone ahead with the full replacement ($3k) but remain curious.

The Cayenne is notorious for this problem; I have had my 2008 Cayenne's cardan shaft replaced twice and I now have 210,000 on the car. There are numerous youtube videos on how to do the fix yourself with a 3-400 dollar aftermarket bearing, and there is also something a lot cheaper and a bit sketchier called a "Jimmy Fix." I have a used 2020 base as my daily driver with 2.5 years left with unlimited miles on the warranty. Hopefully it will be under warranty when the bearing fails, as it no-doubt will.

The Volkswagen Touaregs also had this issue. When I was driving the Touaregs, I would get my driveshafts from Colorado Driveshaft. However, I don't know if they stock the driveshafts for Macan like they did for the Touareg. Give them a call, super nice guys.
