Default Replacement Door Pillar Trim...

My door pillar trims are still scratched from previous ownership, despite a good polish, and I'm considering replacing them with these.

Seems like an inexpensive solution.

Has anyone gone through this? Easy? Would "professional insallation" be better?

Haven't done it myself but I would get a professional to install as it would be very annoying if the new trim pieces weren't installed correctly (ie. misaligned or not sitting flat).

Related but got PPF + ceramic coating done on my new GTS and the installed put PPF over all of those trim pieces at no extra charge. Smart move as they definitely get dinged up over time.

Wrapped all mine in vinyl. Still doesn’t look great, as there are some air bubbles since I did it myself and suck at it, but I didn’t want to risk water leaks with complete replacement. I can live with the ok-pillars to not add on potential headaches of leaks! There’s a YouTube video of how to do one of them, but not all. Looks ez but with my luck, everything would sit crazy and leak!

I figure it’s an old macan s, not a sweet 911, so mediocre is fine 😂

Ha! Understood. My problem is that it's still, IMO, a beautiful Porsche, up there in looks with the 911's and 718's and I'm slowly getting up to the best condition it can be.

If you end up replacing them all, diy how-to videos would be sooo amazing!

Resurrecting this thread from Fall 2023. Has anyone successfully replaced their Macan door pillar trim with the panes from Suncoast? (https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/95bdptr.html) Or is covering them with vinyl wrap considered the safer approach? A few of the trim pieces on my Macan are faded and have cracking & "spiderwebbing" under the surface which I want to address.

Based on info here and in another MacanForum, the 4 common options appear to be:
1. Replace - Replace the faded/cracked pillar trim with New trim pieces from Porsche, Suncoast, etc.
2. Cover - Cover the faded/cracked piece(s) with thin, stick-on plastic B-pillar and C-pillar pieces. Here is an example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/126432331509
3. Wrap - Apply vinyl wrap in gloss black, satin black, etc.
4. Ignore - Do nothing and enjoy the "patina"

Has anyone had recent success with option #1 or #2?

I just wrapped the entire trim with PPF - easy 100-200 dollar for years of protection and not worried about finger prints.

That's the price you pay to have it done professionally. So either DIY or pony up a couple hundred bucks, which should not be that big a deal for a Porsche owner.

Yeah and he said; "I just wrapped" them and didn't mention someone else doing the work.

I purchased a 6-piece B-pillar and C-pillar mounding cover kit from Ebay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/126432331509), and it is exactly what one would expect for under $20 USD. This is not an endorsement, just my personal experience which might save others time. . .

This stick-on kit is a low-cost, easy-to-apply, 10-minute option for quickly refreshing the Macan's pillar trim appearance. Although the ebay description states "Material: PC Plastic", the kit I received contained several 1-mm thick vinyl sheets cut to fit each B and C-pillar. These were Not hard plastic sections. The product has a gloss black finish that looks decent from 10-feet away. (If you prefer a satin black look, which I do in hindsight, then simply do not peel off the protective outer plastic film.) But a closer, 10-inch inspection will reveal some issues -- it is a lot thicker than a vinyl wrap or paint protective film, and the fitment is not 100% perfect around the corners and edges. This is clearly seen if you view it close up at an angle.

For the price, this kit provides a huge, instant, short-term improvement in appearance, which would be evident if I had not forgotten to take a few "Before" pics. However, time will tell if the trim pieces are truly durable, "scratch and chemical resistant", and "car wash safe" as the seller claims. If it is showing signs of wear after after a month of daily driving, then I will book an appointment with a nearby Xpel PPF specialist.

Price = Low
Installation = Easy
Appearance / Fitment = Meh
Durability = Unknown

I hope this helps someone else!

Satin Finish (just installed, before removing outer film):

Gloss Black Finish (final look, with outer film removed):
