If the key is lost, what makes you think it's in the car? If the car started with the key before you lost it, and it won't start now, chances are it's not in your car.
There are only so many places the key could be inside the car.
When you say it won't start, does it crank and not fire up or does it not turn over at all?
Sorry, I should have mentioned... I lost the key for three weeks. I JUST found it, inside the car. I thought (during those weeks) the key may be in the car but because it wouldn't start I assumed it was lost elsewhere.

The car uses multiple antennas to detect both the presence of the key nearby and detect whether it is inside the car or outside it. That's actually a pretty tough problem to get right, and I'm surprised it works as well as it does. When the key is lying on the floor under the seat, it wouldn't be surprising at all if the car thought the key was actually outside.
Haven’t lost a key in in the Macan yet but in the 992 I have from time to time. Pockets are for hands only if you’re me. After futile searches in the 992 where I was pretty certain the key had fallen between a front seat and center arm rest, I’ve learned a spirited drive with enough G forces will deposit the key in a rear passenger footwell right in plain view. When the time comes with the Macan, which it inevitably will, I’ll be trying that approach.
Was fueling my 993 when the doors locked. Checked and had the key in my pocket. Some web thread at the time a guy said he thought it was a carjacking prevention feature.

Have had the car lock while walking by the car with key in pocket. Also had doors lock and unlock while washing the car with key in pocket.
