I'm away from home and wife just reported a very strange problem with fuel.
She had about 1/3 of a tank. Then the car said it needed fuel and the gauge read near empty.
She went to a staffed gas station and the attendant tried to fill it. After about 1.5 gallons the gas apparently started "spitting out" the filler tube. Station attendant could not fill it further. She drove home OK with gauge still reading empty. I can't think of any explanation for this behavior. Anyone with an idea???
Possibly, BTDT, something stuck in the filler neck. Maybe you or someone siphoned off some gas for the lawn mower and a piece of tubing got stuck in there. Coat hanger to pull it out? Grasping at straws here.
The Macan has gone into the dealer who kindly provided us a loaner Macan. They say they will probably look at it on Monday. I'll post pack what the problem and resolution is.
Probably failure of a control or purge valve. As gas flows into the tank, the displaced air is vented not to the atmosphere but to the charcoal canister system. Vapors from the canister are purged back to the tank or to the engine. All this is controlled by various valves. In the event of certain types of failures the tank cannot accept any gasoline.
Try go upside nozzle and see if that works. When I trailered and only when on flatbed for my 6gt3 trackcar it spits out fuel if normal nozzle in if upsode down no problem.
@ram_g Had a Volkswagen Passat years ago that I mistakenly "topped up" to the top of the filler neck at every refueling. The result was a bad purge valve for the carbon canister and the car not accepting more than a couple gallons of gas at a time. `\___(*_*)___/`
That's happening to my 2022 718 as well. Cant put any gas in it. Apparently, it only fills the filler neck and overflows after that, nothing is going into the tank. Searching around, seems like there are a few sensors in the filler neck that should trigger the vent valve open or a solenoid somewhere, allowing the fuel to go in. ** I've checked all fuses and they are all fine **
Have you guys had this problem? How did you fix it?
My car had a front/left hit, it was fixed, however I believe something had disconnected on the tank filler side that is causing that problem.
Many posts online mention a valve that the old models have - which when it goes bad, doesn't trigger the tank solenoid and vapor valve to open, mine doesn't have it. I'll take the wheel and liners off today trying to spot anything out of ordinary and will post the results here.
Any help will be appreciated.
We took the Macan to the dealer and they checked it out pretty well, scoped the filler tube down to the tank. They could not find anything wrong. Then I was able to fill it up OK and the problem has not happened again. Still no idea what caused it to happen that one time.
Porsche uses a fuel filler vent valve as part of the emission system. When it malfunctions it cause fuel to back up in the filler neck and prevent filling up. In the older cars the failure was usually due to a blown fuse. Not sure what would cause a failure on a Macan.
