My family members who are on the gas until braking at the red light get under 40K miles on the pads.

Also, high throttle in snowy conditions will cause the vehicle's stability control to wear the rear pads.
What are you doing with the “windshield” to get over 100,000 miles on a set of pads? Is any other member getting this kind of life out of brake pads? If so, I’m doing something terribly wrong as my warning/caution shows up after 20,000 miles or so. Thx

My windshield is used to look through, to observe traffic, to anticipate traffic flow, to stop application of throttle, so that brake pedal application will not be required.

As an example, if a traffic signal has turned red, my vehicle coasts to that red light, is almost always passed by many, many vehicles racing to the red light, only to apply brakes as they approach the stopped vehicles waiting for the light to change and for flow to resume. That is contrasted w/ my coasting vehicle that only resumes throttle once the stopped traffic flow resumes movement, frequently never requiring application of brakes.

Another benefit is MUCH less brake dust to clean off the wheels.

Cannot count how many brake jobs I've performed, always using eyeball measurement tools for the pads and my digital vernier caliper for the rotor thickness.

Thanks for your spurring me to investigate a pad measurement tool.

Has anyone else experienced anything close to this? 64,000 on one set of pads? Maybe it was a typo?
I didn't even make 24k, i don't drive like a granny though!

I typically get 75,000 to 100,000 miles on pads on all my cars. I guess if you do a lot of city driving you can burn through them faster. But 64,000 would actually be a bit on the low side for me.

An added benefit of not tearing up to stops is that while you're coasting you're not using any fuel.

We have 61K on the front rotors and pads and I'll be replacing them before inspection in December. I did the rears back at 40K. Credit to the Mrs she drives 55 miles round trip highway and secondary roads every day.

Hey that's pretty nice. I went with the thickness gauge version and yeah I usually never let them get below the backing plate thickness. I always measure before state inspection so I know what I need to know
