Dealer says I need new engine mounts. They quoted 9 hours of labor. The tech said they have to remove some other parts to get to the mounts, and that is why the labor is so high. But I'm looking at the service manual and it looks pretty simple:
Remove wheel
Remove wheel housing liner
Remove underbody paneling
Install engine safety device
Unhook a wiring connector
Remove the mount
Install the new mount
Reverse steps 1-5
Does anyone have first-hand experience doing this? The only issue is I don't have the hanging system for the engine. It is likely covered under my third party warranty and it doesn't look very complicated so I can find a shop to do it, but I am wondering why the dealer wants 9 hours for to do both sides...they also said the bolts need to be replaced but the service manual does not say to replace them.
that looks like it's for the I4 model, for the V6 IIRC you need to drop the sub frame, a few one time use bolts need to be replace,
and also and alignment afterward.
This is the 2015-2016 repair manual so no I4. Also it only lists this single procedure, it doesn't have any separate procedure listed for the Turbo
It does say "MACAN" and not "ALL MODELS" so now I am not sure, but I don't see any other procedure. (Other examples like Pressure Loss Test also just say "MACAN" but I assume they are for all models)
Im planning to do that myself as will for Macan S 2015. Faust is correct, the one in the manual is for 4 cylinder engine, and you can confirm that from the engine mount shape for the macan S, it's different than the one on the manual.there are bolts that connect the engine mount to the car from the side and from the bottom, while the manual 4 cylinder one only 3 bolts from the side connecting it to the car.
but my current project is replacing the steering rack, hopefully everything goes well, then I will dive into the engine mounts.
be careful not to order the wrong engine mount number. I was very close to do that. I will share more details later once I dive into it, please keep us updated as will.
I am having my mechanic do my mounts. He said they do have to drop the subframe, so that confirms what others have said and the instructions in my repair manual are incorrect.
Ozzie, how many miles? Any contributing factors to the mount failures?
2015 Turbo with 85k miles. I bought it with 57k miles, I don't know if the PO did anything that might have contributed. I think he had a racechip and I have a cobb ap so it's possible the additional power put extra strain on the mounts. But I don't give it full throttle very often. I don't know how the PO drove it. That's the only contributing factor I can think of. Both my Indy mechanic and the Porsche tech didn't suspect it was the engine mounts because they haven't seen them go bad on the Macans. So I don't know if this is a fluke or maybe something that might affect higher mileage ones. It took them 2 days to get one of the mounts so it's not something regularly stocked by the dealers.

Do you know if the passenger or driver side engine mount is easier to access?
I am installing an engine in my Macan now. The left engine mount has a broken bolt end in one of the holes. I can't seem to find the correct size triple square for the bolt to remove the mount from the engine.
12 is too small and loose and 14 is too large. There does not appear to be a triple square tool in size 13, nowhere I can find sells one. Anybody who has done this know which tool to use?

instead of using the inner triple square, you could use the outer hex.
can you please share some images to help with our replacement, and the steps on how to get the left engine mount. it appears to be snug between multiple parts.
I found the following YouTube video if it will help, but it's not very clear on every step, an example he removed the anti-roll bar without mentioning it:
