The only part of the CD article that sells the vehicle to me is:
"The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and is 129 pounds lighter than the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 found in the S and GTS models, which Porsche says will result in more nimble handling and better cornering."
Might as well just buy an RDX
I'm guessing the Porsche is a way better handling car than an RDX.
God bless you,
Tom
^ dunno Only have experience w 1G RDX but Acura offers adaptive (valve?) struts and three way adjustment. The base is substantially less but the advance is $50K. RDX base lacks many of the standard options that come on the macan including AWD. And who knows which will be more reliable with the Hodge Podge of parts both manufactures are slapping in place with chewing gum.
My RDX was heavily modded and a blast to drive. Probably one of my favorites and only one of two vehicles I bought new off the showroom floor.

I laughed when I read 129lbs lighter makes a difference. I mean if it was 500 or 800lbs lighter then maybe yes. But 129lbs in an SUV? Lol.

It makes a difference because it's all in the nose. One of the most knowledgable Porsche guys I know--he has edited several Porsche magazines--likes the base Macan because of the lighter nose.

I got a base Macan as loaner when my S went in for TCC leak repair, and one thing I notice immediately was the handling is actually better without a big V6 in the front,
but that's about the only upside on the base model nonetheless........
I have a base Macan loaner this week, and the thing I notice is that the handling is dramatically sharper than my Base 2018 V6 Cayenne - and the engine is super fun if you keep it above 3.5K in sport mode. But if you let it sit in Auto with sport off, it's a dog. If they had unveiled a manual Macan T....holy hell. Take my money. That would be a fun car.
so... it's like the 95B.1 Sport Edition all over agin?
Can't complain at all about our '18 Macan Sport Edition. Practical when needed, good gas mileage, good capacity with the rear seats down, surprisingly peppy, super ride with the air suspension and no quality issues. Very comfortable and fun to drive on long distances. Yeah, more hp would be nice, but really not missed in 95% of my driving. Macan T might be my next DD when my BMW 330xi lease is up.
I like the idea of the T models. Offer the best handling options with the base engines. I've been thinking of a Macan 2.0 for my wife, and if were to do this would get a T. She does not need the extra power of the S or GTS but would enjoy the handling upgrades and aesthetics of the Macan T.
I appreciate Nick Murray's videos but I highly disagree with his statement that PTV+ on the Macan is pointless and a waste of money. Seems to have made up his mind without really experiencing it or understanding how it works. Confused his self by mixing up front/rear AWD torque bias functionality with torque vectoring.
BTW, I had a loaner Sport Edition with the base engine and test drove a Turbo. The SE handled noticeably better than the Turbo and did not feel sluggish around town in comparison. If anything, I was underwhelmed by the power of the Turbo and impressed by the 2 liter. Even the Turbo engine note was not that impressive to me. Obviously, going all out the Turbo would be faster, but in normal daily use, I'd rather the base engine.
Also, the Macan T suspension is now setup similarly to the GTS (lowered 15mm + uprated front swaybar) whereas the Sport Edition PASM+AS was not lowered and otherwise the same as non-GTS Macans. I expect the Macan T to handle even better than the SE and therefore be the best handling Macan ever. I would happily buy it if I were in the market because you simply can't option an S to handle as well, and a GTS similarly equipped would be about $20k more yet likely not handle as well because of the extra weight of the V6 out front. Plus, Sport-Tex upholstery is only available on the Macan T, which I prefer a million times over leather or alcantara. There's an awful lot to like about the T package.
