Default Prices changing faster than COVID case

Hey guys!

Well damn the prices in the used market (California) for a Macan is changing faster as you know...COVID. My mom was recently involved car accident where she was rear-ended. Her rental/courtesy car is a 2019 Macan. You can see where this is going.

Her car was totaled and she is looking to get a Macan now. A week before I started looking at the market and found 2018s going for $37-$41k. I have seen prices change over the weekend upwards of $4-$7k. Considering its a Porsche we expect a premium, but I don't want to be taken advantage of if there is something going on. I saw on Reddit there was a Toyota dealership asking $6,800 ADM on a Camry. What the changed from this week from the last? She is looking to get a 2019 and they are few a far between compared to the 2018 lease returns.

Great thread title. Saw a YouTube (i allegedly) with a $47K dealer mark-up on a new Bronco. Evil, greedy, there are scoundrel's everywhere who will capitalize on this global reset. There seem to be more of them here on the West coast.

Yeah I've seen a couple of his videos on YouTube regarding inflation and the outrageous increases in costs here in California.

My mom was getting discouraged about the prices for the Macan. Then I showed her a listing from Car_ax that was for a 2014 Chevy Suburban with 83k miles going for $32k. Dealers really are taking advantage of the used car market. I'm going to continue to search the private party listings. I was just really wanting a CPO Macan.

My son grabbed up the last few months of the lease on our 2019 Macan S (18,000 miles) and is buying out the end of the lease in July for $ 42,000
( I was offered $58,000 for it just 2 months ago)
The 2022 S however is a HUGE improvement over the 19...which was a really great car to start with.

The overall market is crazy. Fortunately, my local dealer had an allocation for a March build Macan S. MSRP, but I got a fortune in trade for my 2013 911 C2S. More than I paid for it used two years ago. My SA was frank about the fact that they probably wouldn’t have sold me the S if it wasn’t for my highly desirable trade-in. Good luck out there in the jungle.

In making room for my incoming Macan GTS, I sold one of my cars recently. It sold in less than 8 days for a $1,000 less than what I paid 3.5 years ago. Loco loco times!

The ‘18 base I paid $42k for in April ‘21 and sold to CarMax last week for $44k was just listed by them for just under $53k. The only improvement I made was a $800 ceramic coating. It was in very good condition.

My local (former) Porsche dealer offered me $40k on trade for a new ‘21 Macan.

Just got back from my local Porsche dealership. 2019 Macan S going for $70k!!! I had to stop the SA and ask him why this price when the 2022 Macan S are starting around $68k. He sheepishly said that the Macan doesn't depreciate much. C'mon man.

Great to hear everyone's fortunate buys from the past. This is how I felt missing out on the Bitcoin days of 2011. I'll be in the trenches looking this weekend.

There's a sucker born every minute and we are living in a world today where demand strong arms the supply. You know when the SA is lying because his/her lips are moving!

I'm in the same situation. I ordered a Macan S in December and initially I was told that I would get an allocation in April. Fair enough becasue I'm wintering elsewhere. But I found later that the Macan has already been ordered for April delivery. Why? Because I will be trading in my 2018 C4S with a manual transmission. High demand. We haven't even discussed trade in value because I'm not even in town and don't expect to be until early April. However, I expect a hefty trade in value on a manual 911. Not too many to be had.

$70K seems about right for a low mileage CPO one in the market today, it's absolutely crazy,
it really sucks for people who have to buy a car right now, $20K mark up on a new Taycan is the usual,
I have even seen $6K mark up on a Honda Civic.

A year ago or so I decided I wanted a 2019+ Macan. As I kept looking, the prices on the 2019+ cars just kept going up, with many dealers lately asking near MSRP for a 20-30k mi car, crazy!

I found a low mileage private party 2015 S with the options I wanted for roughly 50% of original MSRP. Yes, it cost me a few grand more than it would have a year ago but I also sold my old car for a few grand more than I paid for it 2+ years ago so it all works out. Hopefully you can find something that works for you!

Good luck in your search!

There's a 2015 S for sale nearby 45K ODO for $50,000 let's hope you did better.

It's been challenging, but I think I've found two promising Macans. If I do pull the trigger I'll post and send some pictures to the tread. Thanks for the encouragement!

YES!!! MORE PICS The thread AnandN started drew a couple pics, but this forum is lacking in the bragging department. Also would be nice to see more DIY videos (even though I'm too old & crippled to crawl under the car.)
