Default 'keyless' entry

I was given a Macan loaner yesterday from my P-car dealer. (I have a Boxster).

The car has a key which is permenantly fixed into the ignition slot and another 'keyless' key which I have to use in order to lock/unlock the doors. Is this the way Macans work? I've had a bunch of Boxsters, GT4, 911 and never seen this before.

TIA,

TIA,
It is the config for keyless entry on my 2012.2 C2S and on my 2018 Macan. To enter just touch the outside door handle. To lock from the outside, touch the door handle where there is small indent. One beep indicates door is locked from the outside, two beeps from both inside and outside or maybe it is the other way around!

If they have the Porsche "Keyless Entry and Drive" option then yes. If not they have a regular key.

This option is not available on GT models but I believe is available on most others. It often comes with packages like premium package, technology package, etc.

Thanks for the info.

I still don't understand why there is a key permanently fastened to the car ...

I don't get it either, as I have 2 other cars where you just push a start button with the remote key in your pocket. Lexus and MB.

Perhaps to do with preserving the tradition of the Le Mans start with left hand working the key and right working the gear lever.

TIA,
Porsche Entry and Drive as others have described, is available on most, if not all models, 911 included.

I don't think it's a key per-se. It's a **** that looks like a key which will allow the car to start when it detects the keyfob. Same as any push button start system on any modern car, just with a ****-switch instead of a button.

The key can be removed if necessary and the fob used in its place.

x2- true. It can be removed, and used like an old school insert key turn to start. It also works as a handy key fob holder. A no cost option and unheard of in Porsche world.
I’m tired of hunting for the key fob that has escaped to beneath the dark passenger seat…
