SOLVED: Turns out that area is a couple of spot LEDs that light up the center console. I turned off the interior lighting on the first night drive so I never noticed. It's kinda pointless for me because with the lumen set low enough for my old eyes the light from those tiny LEDs doesn't make it past the top of the dash.
