2.5 month failed experiment with an Audi S7 is done. Back to what works.

Can you elaborate on the "experiment" and what you didn't like about the S7? Not that an S7 and a Macan are really comparable, just curious

I bought a 2018 S7 because I was intrigued by the twin turbo V8. Fast and fun in straight lines though I've not seen a gas guzzling machine like that since the 80s. That wasn't the primary issue though. It was ridiculously heavy and drove like a pig. The Macan is much more agile.

Curious why you think it was a gas guzzler. I got better mileage with my 2013 S6 with the 4.0TT than I get in my 2018 Macan Turbo. Yes I feel the Macan is more agile, but it does guzzle gas more than the S6 did.

This. Former 2017 S6 owner here, the V8TT has cylinder deactivation that net me 31-33mpg highway at 75mph cruising all day long.

While I'm not a Macan owner, I do have a few friends with them who state they get low 20's at best on the highway.

I don't do a lot of highway driving since the pandemic started. Mostly short trips in my town. I had the S7 in Dynamic "D" mode. That explains some of the thirst, but was the only way to make the car somewhat fun.

In any case, I'm happy to be back in a Macan. I missed my old Macan S for the 2.5 months I had the S7.

Now I wait for Cobb to develop a tune for the 2019+ Macans.

Interesting to hear you feel the Macan is “much more agile” than the S7, but yeah, the S7 is a pretty large sedan. RS7 might….might….be a different story, although I’ve always considered them to be a big ultra high perf GT autobahn cruiser for the most part.

Nice Macan you got, congrats!!

Had a 2015 RS5 with the massive V8 and was underwhelmed. It was large, heavy, I disliked the Audi minimalist approach (no data on engine not even oil temp, pressure, battery...). Nice lines but no 992 (twice the price). As to Macan comparison of course it's more agile but won't win anything against that V8 with a 100+ hp over the S.

As for practicality, for everyday use and for where I live, is the reason I'll never give up my 2008 V8 Touareg with air suspension (just wish I could swap the 6 speed Tiptronic for a 7 speed DSG)
