Is the base Macan really underpowered?

Just turned in a base Macan dealer service loaner. Quite impressed with the pep in town.

More than happy with our 2019 "base +". By far one of the best cars I've owned over the years and plenty of power for daily driving / weekend utility. Not to mention the money saved on the base trim helped put something a little more expensive next to it in the garage.

Anyone still considering the 2022 base with the upgrade on the s?

You can tell I am use to a Lexus, because I test drove a Base Macan two weeks ago and I have been searching for one (or the Cayenne) ever since. Lordt don't let me test drive the S model I would really be messed up. LOL I just felt with this Base Macan, I felt in a small way, what the hype is all about regarding Porsche products. Not just the ride, but the quality feel of the interior and exterior.

I remain very curious about the longer term reliability and longevity of the 4 cyl vs the 6 cyl for those of us who intend to keep them long term and well past the warranty period. It's no secret that the 4 cyl works harder (under full boost during even moderate acceleration) than the 6 cyl to propel these 2 ton bricks around in that sporty and peppy manner.
While I never found the base Macan to be underpowered I definitely had my doubts about having 4 angry squirrels on PCP under the hood of a car I'd like to see 5-10 years of relatively reliable service from.

That garage is suspiciously pristine!

So reliability has been pretty-well established. Though long-term exposure to PCP can make squirrels VERY angry.

The issue isn't the 4 vs 6 engine, it's the bloat on the Macan. I owned the 1G RDX, super fun to drive that little beast around. It weighed 300 lbs less than my S. Doesn't seem like much of a difference, but add a fat friend in your back seat and your gonna have a slower car that takes longer to stop as well.

2018 Macan SE
I'm also considering a '18 SE as a daily driver/road trip car that is replacing an old Acura MDX. I would indeed add a chip as my soon as a '13 Golf R with a tune and it drives amazing. I'm seeing the Macan SE under $50K and feel its a safer alternative to an S with potential oil leak issues and a sporty option to a new '22 Volvo XC-40 that is also in consideration. The new and used market is bat-**** crazy, I'm hopeful that the 4cylinder Macan will be looked down upon and drive a better value.
