Hi,
I personally am not a fan of dark windows in cars. Because of that, I ordered my 2020 Macan S without the insulated and privacy glazing. This is my first Porsche and a German car. I know that the German cars are way better sound insulated compared to the Amerixan cars.
My question is, if my Macan S is going to be really noisy with the standrad glazing and it was a mistake to not order the insulated windows?

I don't think the noise will be an issue - why not take a test drive and see firsthand...my perception of noise levels might be different than yours.

thank you for your reply. I did test drive before I order my Macan S, but 2 dealers I went to, had insulated glass only. This was the reason I was wondering. I am not going to change my order, but wanted to see, if Porsche uses good glazing anyhow.
I've heard enough anecdotes to believe there is an issue with the insulated glass and interference with cell phone signals. I frequently take calls in my car and that cannot happen, so I passed on it as well.
You can add aftermarket ceramic tint that will deal with heat and not mess with cell signals for ~$400-500 for the good stuff (Suntek and Huper Optik being generally considered the top tier brands); my car spends 95%+ of its life in the garage so I haven't even gotten around to it yet but summer will be here soon enough to remind me.
Maybe the insulated glass offers a quieter ride, but this is my second Macan without it, and noise is not an issue. Again, I take frequent calls in the car. Non issue.

I have noticed some interference but it may be more from the heated glass windshield. Either way, we went with the AT&T Hotspot for $15/mo and it really complements the cell coverage on my cell phone from T-Mobile. When my cell phone coverage is sketchy, it switches to wi-fi calling through my AT&T hotspot. Excellent cell coverage with that combination especially in areas I had no coverage with T-Mobile. Living in AL, the thermally insulated glass is quite nice and I like the reduced road noise. Noticeable different from our other vehicles.

Never had a problem with my cell in the car with this option.

You mentioned this is your second Macan. I was wondering if you had or have air suspension in your Macan or just the standard steel suspension? Do you think steel suspension contributes to more road noise? Some people say larger wheels 20" and 21" increase the road noise as well. Please share your thoughts.

I've heard it both ways. Cost benefit analysis resulted in me not seeing the benefit outweighing the risk, especially when I never had an issue with road noise in my first Macan and plan on tinting the windows darker via aftermarket anyway. I do hear the insulated glass does make a difference but again, not worth it for me personally.

My first Macan was a '15 S, with standard (non-PASM) steel suspension. My second is a '20 S I've had since November, it has steel PASM. Both cars had 20" wheels; factory Michelins on the '15 and Pirellis on the '20. I usually drive around in Sport mode, which is the middle setting for the suspension. I've never noticed road noise being a problem at all.

This is a fantastic news to me. I did not order the air suspension and I am glad I saved the money and got the steel suspension. The Macan S, that I tested before I order mine, had air suspension and it was really smooth and because of that it was a mystery to me if the standard option is going to be fine or not, but you answered my question. Thank you.
My Macan does not have the "Thermally and Noise Insulated Glass" option, but the windows are already nicely tinted and the Macan is much quieter than any other car I've owned (two Audis and three BMWs). So from my perspective, I didn't think the $990 option was worth it. I was trying to keep my overall price point closer to a Q5, my prior vehicle. My MSRP was $64,300 and I paid slightly under, so at that point another thousand bucks (OK, $990) felt material.
All the noise in my Macan S comes from the passenger seat. Insulated glass would make no difference to me.
I ceramic tint all my cars. I even went so far as to tint my sunroof. All my other car have hard covers, I found too much heat transfer thought the Bimini cover.
30% was perfect.
If you don't like a dark tint. There are lots of ceramic clear films that you can apply as well. They cut out 98+% of the uv's coming into the cabin.

Porsche Macan S will be my first ever German car. I have had mostly American cars. Wind noise has been an issue to me at the higher speeds. As I understand, wind noise would not be a big issue even without the laminated glazing in Porsche Macan S. As you mentioned, Macan is quieter than Audi and BMW, it makes me more confident that I did a good decision with the standard glass.
