Like it was mentioned above, a Lexus RX350 with four years of included maintenance and uses regular gas might work for you.

I have kicked it all aroiund, the Japanese cars tend to eat tranny's and have less leg room than the german cars. I guess i need to just suck it up and make a decision. no decision will come without some level of sacrifice.

Are you able to expense mileage at the government rate? Because if it were me I’d just be doing a yearly car buy. You’re talking 30k+ in mileage reimbursement.
Would hate to deal with maintenance or concern with break down if i drove that much. Your car is a primary tool for work so it’s gotta be reliable and function on demand.

that said there is nothing like an e class or 5 series for eating up highway miles in comfort ....

i think Macan is great just not sure how it will be after 150-200k miles...

no milage options anymore. the new laws do not allow unreinbursed milage So thats a moot point now.

right the tax cut law removed the unreimbursed deduction for employees. bummer if your employer doesn't reimburse for miles on the job...

Love my Macan, but an RX350 should be more reliable. Also isn’t it bigger / more legroom? Macan is a small/cramped car.

Having driven both it is my opinion you are comparing a 1953 Power Glide four door Chevrolet to 911 Porsche. I, and others here on this forum, might choose the smaller car.

I drove to pgh this week, my father passed away over the holiday, and we took the gls450, it got 23 mpg, and its a couch. so if mpg is the end game decison maker. i dont think theres alot of difference. i am going to drive a few and decide what fits the best. then, jump back into the benz and see how much real comfort differnce. may end up with a 4 banger benz or bmw 5 series. 15 mpg is a lot when you add it up. thanks for all your help. hope everyone has a great new year!

So sorry first of all for your loss. This is always a difficult time.
The mpg really makes indeed a huge difference over time, and all indications are that oil prices will continue to trend upwards in spite of temporary price reductions. The writing is on the wall, epecially as EV and hybrid vehicles take up more market share. I, for one, am willing to sacrifice some performance for the sake of being able to take longer trips without it costing 20% or so more in gas. My X3 xDrive 2.8i gets around 23-24 mpg in town and 30-31 on the highway (as long as it's not too hilly, in which case going uphill it drops to more like 28 mpg) and I'd be very happy with getting around 30 mph on the highway compared to lower twenties or below. The X3 4-cyl has very similar performance figures with the base Macan and I've been more than happy with that aspect.

I also have a GT3 but my Macan Turbo with air suspension is the best all around vehicle I've ever owned however... if I was putting 70K miles a year on it the costs would make me reconsider.

If you haven't checked Mazda out lately (or ever) look at the 6 for a sedan and a CX9 for SUV. We had a totally loaded '16 6 that got aver 40 MPG on the highway (34-ish if a lot of city) that did everything well. - I liked it way better than the Mercedes E350 that we had just prior.

I'm in a similar situation, just not as extreme. I do between 25-30k a year and found the Porsche CPO program to be great for people like us. I settled on a Macan S tonight in the high 30s, 38,000 miles. The two year unlimited milage warranty is pretty good for what we do. Your company is offering you nothing for the car package? I'm currently reimbursed at .58 a mile.

Curious how this decision ended up. Would really like to follow how a Macan does at 70 thousand miles/year.

One of my all time favorite vehicles might also fit your needs. VW Touareg TDI. Obviously if you are looking to buy new, this isn’t an option. I’d buy one of these again in a heartbeat. Here’s one I found with a quick search:

i have yet to pull the trigger, now that we are all in covid 19 hell. but plan on driving the macan, cayenne and make a decision. I dont need the additional space, but need the leg room. I keep going back and forth on my game plan, but need to do something in the next few months. I keep hearing a bunch of cars will now be coming off lease (supposed to be the time of year leases come up) so will start searching. I am 6'4 so no one sits behind me in any of our cars.

I have been upside down behind the rear seat enough to know it would not take much to move the seat rails back to accommodate your needs. Every single time I drop anything it goes down the impossible spot between the seat and the central area. Thus I am upside down in the rear seat trying to coach it out. Move the seat rails, screw them down, and you are good to go.
