"The Audi A6 e-tron is the second model on Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform. Audi shares its PPE with Porsche, and it is expected that all the next vehicles in the group will support digital car keys."

CarKey is not related to CarPlay at all but still something I'd like to have.
This other document mentions CW25 (June 16-22) for the earliest availability.
Been an Apple fan for a long time, and really like the CarPlay 2 integration mockups. Clearly both Apple and Google have been going after this market the last few years with Manufacturers.
With that said, when the Macan EV came out with Android Automotive, I think you should consider this dead for the next many years. Happy to see good CarPlay integration, with maps in the main drivers display etc. which is a step up from previous generations.
Key rarely leaves my pocket with nice hands single button access or free gestures to open hood, etc.
I'm not sure why running Android Automotive in the PCM would mean CarPlay 2 won't happen for a few years. If Apple wants car manufacturers to provide CarPlay and CarPlay 2 integration, Apple must support Android Automotive since they don't have a full automotive stack of their own.
Integrating with other platforms like Tesla and Rivian is a much bigger challenge, since those companies are unwilling to give up any control over the user experience. The fact that they don't offer CarPlay made their vehicles a "Hard No" when I was looking at replacing my previous vehicle.

If you look at the Carplay2 mockups, or have read up on it, it covers all screens from drivers to extended screens. I think this was Apple's big plan to get Car Mfg to move over to their interface, with under pining support.
My take is with Porsche choosing Android automotive, that supports many of these functions, Apple lost the race (for now). Given the bugginess of the Macan EV roll out, and lingering problems on even the 911's (personal experience), don't see them implementing this anytime soon. VW group is also struggling, with an investment in Rivian for software development support. Here's one of the many articles on it.
"Apple's next-generation CarPlay experience is still nowhere to be seen following Porsche's announcement of a major upgrade of its infotainment system for 2026."
"The upcoming 2026 model year Porsche Taycan, 911, Panamera, and Cayenne feature an upgraded version of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, making it more responsive, adding Dolby Atmos support, and integrating Amazon's Alexa voice assistant. The new system brings the Porsche App Center, a kind of app store for the vehicle, to all of the new models."
Volkswagen's move to Android Automotive was because of the failure of their in-house software. VW is also investing up to $5.8 billion in Rivian, forming a joint venture to develop next-generation software and EV technology. I love my iPhone and I love CarPlay but I don't see a need for CarPlay 2.
