My wife switched from a BMW X3 to a Tesla M3 a few years back and really loves the EV experience. She uses it to drive around Austin as we have other cars for longer trips. She wants a new EV (not Tesla) and we test drove a Macan 4 and GV60 Advanced. There are good things about both, although we would probably choose a Performance if we went GV60 and maybe the 4S if we went Porsche.
Porsche:
Solid car, quick, good luxury, wife loves the oak green neo, range ok
Wife did not like the lack of regen feel that she is used to
Genesis
cool design, quick, lots of tech, build seems good, range not great (but ok for run-about)
regen is adjusted each time via the paddles
Has anyone cross-shopped these or have some thoughts? Note we also looked at, but didn't drive the BMW iX. It's bigger than what she wants.
I did look at the genesis EV lineup as I narrowed down my choice. I’m guessing the GV60 will be considered the much better ‘value’, but I personally just didn’t like the look of the exterior. Never test drove it but seems like a very solid vehicle; however, I would guess not on the same level of pure driving experience as the macan. I also looked at the ‘electrified’ G80….i find that to be a beautiful sedan. However reviews at the time were mixed, seemingly mostly because it was just a converted EV from their ICE vehicle. I find the EV’s that aren’t built electric from the ground up, or have a shared platform (like the bmw i5) just seem to have too many compromises.
I cross-shopped. The Macan has such a tight and sport-level experience that it basically blows away the competition in this area. To me, this is where the decision point is for a Porsche. Genesis vehicles are great, but even in their sportiest trim they are still comfy luxury cars. If you love and absolutely want the sportiest combined with comfortable driving experience you can get, and the money is a secondary factor, then Macan all the way.
One of the big hurdles is if you decide to lease, the Macan will be double the lease payment of the Gensis, even if their MSRPs were close. I really liked the Macan 4, LOVED the Macan Turbo (almost too sporty in some ways in Sport Plus), but ended up with a BMW iX M60 because the drive was sporty enough, super comfortable, great technology / driving assistance, and I could lease it for less than a grand a month with no money down because they are knocking $25k off the price and an extremely low money factor. Honestly, can't go wrong with either decision.
Macan 4 starts at like $93k, and 4S goes up from there - that has to be what - $30k more than the Genesis? That’s a lot of coin, and I say that as someone who wants a Macan EV but I’m disappointed in the Porsche price trajectory on everything.

I learned the hard way that you have to pay to be in the Porsche game. There is no way around it unless you want to buy used (not 911s). No option on Macan EVs for that right now. For me, it was worth it for a 911 because of the bucket list want and they hold their value quite well. The premium on their other vehicles, although great cars, just wasn't worth it. I love the Macan EV, and will be keeping up with news and owner feedback, and eyeballing them coming off leases in 3 years. I would have a paid a 30-40%% lease premium over anything else if that was offered.
Electron for electron, the GV60 is a better buy than the Macan.
Yes, the Macan is perhaps a better "driving" experience.
But is it 30-45k better? And even if it is, how often are you going to be pushing a electric SUV at something like 7/10 and above to really notice that difference?
Most people buy and use SUVs, be they EVs or ICE or something in between, as a utilitarian vehicle to get from Point A to B and back to A.
For that, I care more about creature comforts than driving dynamics and handling. As long as it handles well enough, I care more about interior touch/feel, UX, creature comforts, range, etc.
Given all that, while the Macan may be a better EV, it's not 30k or 40k better than the GV60.
I was disappointed with the charging performance curve on the Genesis, so I was really only looking at PPE solutions. My wife likes braking regeneration on the Macan EV ... so, that was the decision point.
The debate for us was whether we wanted 10 more years of ICE maintenance problems or we wanted to try 10 years of Macan maintenance problems.
With many of these types of threads you don't find out what happened.
I was unable to convince my wife to get the Macan 4S. Mostly due to price and 1-pedal driving. The 4S's we were looking at were ~105k. We decided to wait for the facelift Genesis GV60 and 70 to come out, but she couldn't wait any longer and asked about the Polestar 3. I was fully against it, but said go drive it and let me know. She really liked it, so I had to read up on it and drive it. I think it is more like the Macan EV than GV60. Handles very well, brakes are awesome, and its quick. Sound system is great. We have one dealer in Austin.
So we traded in the Model 3 & got an additional 20k in incentives on a 27mo lease on the Polestar 3 with performance and plus packages. She will pick it up Monday and we go from there. Hopefully it will be a good experience for her.

congratulations on the new Polestar 3! They are an absolutely beautiful vehicle inside and out. Polestar is definitely offering some great incentives currently as well.
I check out the Polestar forum every few days - unfortunately, that’s what’s putting me off from seriously considering one. Despite the numerous software updates, it seems that many owners, at least those commenting on the forum, are still experiencing issues.
Wish you the best on yours! It really is a beautiful vehicle.
