Default I'm realllllllllllly slow .....

to catch on, sometimes.

I've lived in or near Augusta, GA, most of my life. I just found out today, while reading a book about NASCAR, that we used to have a really nice track here, Augusta International Speedway! It had a half-mile oval, a drag strip, and a 3 mile paved road course, all in one big park.

Glenn "Fireball" Roberts won the road course race there in 1964. He was killed at Charlotte just a few months later. Jim Hall ran there in his Chapparal.

Now I know why my mom's favorite racer, when I was a kid, was Fireball, and why she was not too pleased when my 1st car was a '65 Pontiac.

When I told my mom a few months ago that I had bought a Porsche and was going to start taking it to DEs, she told me that my dad, who died when I was young, had been a mechanic and short-track racer. I knew about the mechanic part, but not the other.

Now the Speedway has been converted into a recreation park.

It would have been so cool to just have to drive 10 miles to a road course track, instead of 150.

***** Augusta. It will never be more than a 1 horse town.
