Wood . . . pros -- very solid, sturdy hit; better for those with not as much upper body strength but little rebound. Cons -- has a tendancy to produce splinters and maybe even cracks with age; needs polishing on occasion.

Graphite . . . pros -- higher launching speed with less effort, tends to produce longer, more accurate drives. Cons -- flexes a bit during stroke, making it a bit more difficult to handle.
