When I was in high school, a girl just around the block in my neighborhood had a girl's sleepover with 8 or 10 girls. I was invited to come over by a couple of the girls I knew and no parents were to be there. Thinking score of the century, I showed up about 9:00 as directed and knocked on the door. To my horror, a huge, ugly bear of a man answered the door. He took a 1 second look at me and said, "Sorry pal" as he slammed the door in my face. I slinked away home.

I think I'll be printing out this application for use with my daughter, who will soon be nine.
On the other hand, she has had a crush on the SAME boy since she was in Kindergarten. Their relationship has gone something like this:
Kindergarten:
Her: "I love you."
Him: "So?"
Her: "I take it back."
1st grade:
Her: "I had a great time at the roller skating party. J. kept asking me to chase him!"
2nd grade:
Her: I think J. likes me because he looks at me all the time.
Me: Are you sure you don't have a booger hanging out of your nose?
3rd grade:
Her: Boys are yucky. I don't like J. anymore. But he does like the cookies that you pack me for lunch.
Once I was armed with that information, I sent the young boy his own set of cookies. He wrote me a THANK YOU NOTE. That kid is gooooood.
His mother is pretty convinced that they're going to the prom together in 9 years.
